Claims
- 1. A system for making wallboard or backerboard sheets comprising:a mixer for mixing materials for making aerated concrete; at least one face layer supply; a former downstream from said mixer for forming core material into a plurality of sheets each having opposing first and second major surfaces and comprising aerated concrete, for joining the sheets of core material together in end-to-end relation and while advancing the joined-together sheets of core material along a path of travel, and for securing at least one face layer from said at least one face layer supply onto at least one of the first and second major surfaces of the joined-together sheets of core material while advancing the joined-together sheets of core material along the path of travel; said former comprising an autoclave for curing the core material prior to securing the at least one face layer thereto; and a cutter downstream from said former for cutting the joined-together sheets of core material and at least one face layer secured thereto into a plurality of wallboard or backerboard sheets while the joined-together sheets of core material and at least one face layer secured thereto are advanced along the path of travel.
- 2. A system according to claim 1 wherein said former comprises:a mold downstream from said mixer for receiving the materials for making aerated concrete therein and allowing the materials to rise and stiffen into a body; said autoclave being downstream from said mold for curing the body; and a divider downstream from said autoclave for dividing the cured body into a plurality of cured sheets to serve as the sheets of core material.
- 3. A system according to claim 2 wherein said former further comprises a conveyor and a sheet handler cooperating therewith for joining the plurality of the cured sheets together in end-to-end relation while advancing the cured sheets along the path of travel.
- 4. A system according to claim 1 said former comprises:a mold downstream from said mixer for receiving the materials for making aerated concrete therein and allowing the materials to rise and stiffen into a body; a divider downstream from said mold for dividing the body into a plurality of uncured sheets; and said autoclave being downstream from said divider for curing the uncured sheets to serve as the sheets of core material.
- 5. A system according to claim 4 wherein said former further comprises a conveyor and a sheet handler cooperating therewith for joining the plurality of the cured sheets together in end-to-end relation while advancing the cured sheets along the path of travel.
- 6. A system according to claim 1 wherein said former secures first and second face layers on respective first and second major surfaces of the joined-together sheets of core material.
- 7. A system according to claim 1 wherein said at least one face layer supply comprises at least one paper face layer supply.
- 8. A system according to claim 1 wherein said at least one face layer supply comprises at least one moisture-resistant face layer supply.
- 9. A system according to claim 1 wherein said former comprises a bevel shaper for forming the first major surface of the joined-together sheets of core material to have beveled portions adjacent respective opposing longitudinal side edges.
- 10. A system according to claim 1 wherein said former further comprises an edge wrapper for securing the at least one face layer to extend around the opposing longitudinal side edges.
- 11. A system according to claim 1 further comprising a reinforcing fiber supply cooperating with said mixer for adding reinforcing fibers to the materials for making aerated concrete.
- 12. A system for making wallboard or backerboard sheets comprising:a mold for receiving materials for making aerated concrete therein and allowing the materials to rise and stiffen into a body; a divider downstream from said mold for dividing the body into a plurality of uncured sheets; an autoclave downstream from said divider for curing the uncured sheets; at least one face layer supply; a conveyor for advancing the cured sheets along a path of travel as the at least one face layer from said at least one-face layer supply is secured thereon; and a cutter for cutting the cured sheets and at least one face layer secured thereto into a plurality of wallboard or backerboard sheets while the cured sheets and at least one face layer secured thereto are advanced along the path of travel.
- 13. A system according to claim 12 further comprising a sheet handler for loading cured sheets onto said conveyor.
- 14. A system according to claim 12 further comprising a mixer upstream from said mold for mixing the materials for making aerated concrete therein.
- 15. A system according to claim 12 wherein the at least one face layer supply comprises first and second face layer supplies for providing first and second face layers for respective first and second major surfaces of the cured sheets.
- 16. A system according to claim 12 wherein said at least one face layer supply comprises at least one paper face layer supply.
- 17. A system according to claim 12 wherein said at least one face layer supply comprises at least one moisture-resistant face layer supply.
- 18. A system according to claim 12 further comprising a bevel shaper for forming a first major surface of the cured sheets to have beveled portions adjacent respective opposing longitudinal side edges.
- 19. A system according to claim 12 further comprising an edge wrapper for securing the at least one face layer to extend around opposing longitudinal side edges of the cured sheets.
