Claims
- 1. A method of providing a detection coverage area in an automotive radar, the method comprising:
(a) generating a plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams in the detection coverage area; and (b) defining a shape of the detection coverage area by adjusting a maximum detection range of each of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams, wherein at least two of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams are provided having a different maximum detection range.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further including:
(c) storing range bin data in a memory that corresponds to each of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams.
- 3. The method of claim 2, further including:
(d) querying predetermined range bin data associated with at least a first beam of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams stored in the memory to define a range to be covered by the first beam.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further including:
(e) repeating step (d) for each of the remaining beams of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams stored in the memory to define a range to be covered by each of the remaining beams.
- 5. The method of claim 2, wherein adjusting the maximum detection range of each of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams includes querying a maximum level of range bin data from the memory that corresponds to each of the plurality of adjacent receive antenna beams.
