Claims
- 1. A sensor device, comprising:
a memory storage device and a controller connected to said memory storage device, wherein said memory storage device includes an offset and a sensor response equation which calibrate a sensor.
- 2. The device of claim 1, wherein said memory storage device is digital memory.
- 3. The device of claim 1, wherein said controller is configured to read temperature from said sensor and calculates the temperature using the offset and the sensor response equation stored in the memory storage device.
- 4. The device of claim 3, wherein said correction coefficients comprise at least a first calibration point and a second calibration point.
- 5. The device of claim 1, wherein said sensor response equation comprises one of the group consisting of a linear equation and a non-linear equation.
- 6. The device of claim 1, wherein said offset is defined by the numerical difference between a calibrated sensor reading and an un-calibrated sensor reading.
- 7. A method of calibrating a temperature reading device, comprising the steps of:
placing an un-calibrated temperature sensor into a controlled environment, placing a calibrated temperature reading device into said controlled environment, bringing said controlled environment to a first predetermined temperature, reading a first data point of said un-calibrated temperature sensor, reading a first data point of said calibrated temperature reading device, and comparing said first data point of the un-calibrated temperature sensor to said first data point of the calibrated temperature reading device to obtain a temperature sensor offset value.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the steps:
adjusting the controlled environment to a second predetermined temperature, reading a second data point of said un-calibrated temperature sensor, reading a second data point said calibrated temperature reading device, and determining actual temperature reading.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein said first predetermined temperature is substantially 0° C.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein said first and second data points of the un-calibrated sensor are used to calculate the sensor response slope that is stored in a memory device.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said first and second data points of the calibrated temperature display device are stored in the memory device.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein said memory device is digital memory.
- 12. The method of claim 8, wherein the determining step further comprises:
calculating a slope of a line and calculating actual temperature based on said slope and said offset value.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the slope is determined by the ratio of the difference between the second data point and the first data point of the calibrated temperature reading device and the difference between the second data point and the first data point of the un-calibrated temperature sensor.
- 14. The method of claim 8, wherein the determining step further comprises:
reading additional data point temperature measurements, deriving an equation of a curve, and calculating the actual temperature.
- 15. A pre-calibrated temperature reading device, comprising:
means for placing an un-calibrated temperature sensor in a controlled environment, means for placing a calibrated temperature reading device into said controlled environment, means for bringing said controlled environment to a first predetermined temperature, means for reading a first data point of said un-calibrated temperature sensor, means for reading first data point of said calibrated temperature reading device, and means for comparing said first data point of the un-calibrated temperature sensor to said first data point of the calibrated temperature reading device to obtain a temperature sensor offset value.
- 16. The device of claim 15, wherein said first predetermined temperature is substantially 0° C.
- 17. The device of claim 15, further comprising:
means for adjusting the controlled environment to a second predetermined temperature, means for reading a second data point of said un-calibrated temperature sensor, means for reading a second data point of said calibrated temperature display device, and means for determining actual temperature reading.
- 18. The device of claim 17, wherein the means for determining actual temperature reading comprises:
means for calculating a slope of a line and means for calculating actual temperature based on said slope and said offset value.
- 19. The device of claim 18, wherein the slope is determined by the ratio of the difference between the second data point and the first data point of the calibrated temperature reading device and the difference between the second data point and the first data point of the un-calibrated temperature sensor.
- 20. The device of claim 17, wherein the means for determining actual temperature reading comprises:
means for reading additional data point temperature measurements, means for deriving an equation of a curve, and means for calculating the actual temperature.
