Claims
- 1. A capacitor comprising:
- a first conductive layer forming a first capacitor electrode;
- the first conductive layer having an array of vertically disposed conductive members thereon in electrical contact with the first conductive layer, the vertically disposed conductive members being separated from each other and each having a cross section shape that encloses a central region;
- the first conductive layer and the vertically disposed conductive members having a layer of dielectric thereon; and,
- a second conductive layer over the layer of dielectric and extending into and around the vertically disposed conductive members, the second conductive layer forming a second capacitor electrode.
- 2. The capacitor of claim 1 wherein the vertically disposed conductive members have a cross section substantially of a hollow square shape enclosing a square central region.
- 3. The capacitor of claim 1 wherein the vertically disposed conductive members have a cross section substantially of a hollow hexagonal shape enclosing a hexagonal central region.
- 4. The capacitor of claim 1 wherein the first and the second conductive layers are TiN layers.
- 5. A capacitor comprising:
- a first capacitor electrode of a first conductive layer having conductive capacitor plates including
- a solid cylindrical conductive core;
- a first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the solid cylindrical conductive core and each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the prior hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric cylinders and the solid cylindrical conductive core;
- a second capacitor electrode of a second conductive layer having conductive capacitor plates including
- a second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart and interleaved between the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart and interleaved between the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the prior hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the second plurality spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and interleaved between each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of space apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the last spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders interleaved between the next to last and the last spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders; and
- a dielectric layer interposed between the interleaving of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders with the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders.
- 6. The capacitor of claim 5 wherein,
- the first and second conductive layers are TiN layers for the first electrode and the second electrode.
- 7. The capacitor of claim 5 wherein,
- the solid cylindrical conductive core is a square shaped solid cylinder and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders are square shaped hollow cylinders.
- 8. The capacitor of claim 5 wherein,
- the solid cylindrical conductive core is a hexagonal shaped solid cylinder and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders are hexagonal shaped hollow cylinders.
- 9. A capacitor comprising:
- a coupled matrix of spaced apart cylindrical capacitors each cylindrical capacitor having first electrodes coupled together and second electrodes coupled together, each of the cylindrical capacitors comprising
- the first capacitor electrode formed of a first conductive layer having conductive capacitor plates including
- a solid cylindrical conductive core;
- a first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the solid cylindrical conductive core and each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the prior hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric cylinders and the solid cylindrical conductive core;
- the second capacitor electrode formed of a second conductive layer having conductive capacitor plates including
- a second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart and interleaved between the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart and interleaved between the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders being spaced apart from and surrounding the prior hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the second plurality spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and interleaved between each of the next hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of space apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders, the last spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinder of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders interleaved between the next to last and the last spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders of the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders; and
- a dielectric layer interposed between the interleaving of the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders with the solid cylindrical conductive core and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders.
- 10. The capacitor of claim 9 wherein,
- the first and second conductive layers are TiN layers for the first electrodes and the second electrodes.
- 11. The capacitor of claim 9 wherein,
- the coupled matrix of space apart cylindrical capacitors is square shaped and wherein each of the cylindrical capacitors the solid cylindrical conductive core is a square shaped solid cylinder and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders are square shaped hollow cylinders.
- 12. The capacitor of claim 9 wherein,
- the coupled matrix of space apart cylindrical capacitors is hexagonal shaped and wherein each of the cylindrical capacitors the solid cylindrical conductive core is a hexagonal shaped solid cylinder and the first plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders and the second plurality of spaced apart hollow concentric conductive cylinders are hexagonal shaped hollow cylinders.
