Claims
- 1. An instrument display, comprising:
a light source; a light guide in communication with said light source, receiving light from said light source; and at least one graphical structure formed on said light guide in a shape of an instrument display mark, receiving light from said light guide and directing at least a portion of said light from said light source out of said light guide.
- 2. The instrument display of claim 1 wherein said light guide has a beveled edge to retain light within said light guide.
- 3. The instrument display of claim 1 wherein said at least one graphical structure comprises pyramidal structures formed in said shape of said instrument display mark.
- 4. The instrument display of claim 1 wherein said at least one graphical structure comprises paint formed in said shape of said instrument display mark.
- 5. The instrument display of claim 1 wherein said at least one graphical structure comprises an etching formed in said shape of said instrument display mark.
- 6. The instrument display of claim 1 wherein said at least one graphical structure directs light out of said light guide by reflecting said at least a portion of said light.
- 7. The instrument display of claim 6 wherein said graphical structure reflects said at least said portion of said light through said light guide.
- 8. An instrument display for a vehicle, comprising:
a first light guide in communication with a first light source, directing light to a first instrument displaying mark; a second light guide in communication with a second light source, spaced from said first light guide and directing light to a second instrument display mark; and a support connecting said first light guide to said second light guide, limiting light transmission between said first light guide and said second light guide.
- 9. The instrument display of claim 8 including a control unit for selectively activating each of said light sources based on vehicle conditions.
- 10. The instrument display of claim 8 wherein said control unit comprises a printed circuit board wherein said light sources are mounted to said printed circuit board.
- 11. The instrument display of claim 8 wherein said first light source comprises a light emitting diode.
- 12. The instrument display of claim 8 including a third light guide connected to at least one of said first and said second light guides by a second support, limiting light transmission between at least one of said first and second light guides.
- 13. The instrument display of claim 8 wherein said support absorbs light.
- 14. The instrument display of claim 8 wherein said mark absorbs light.
- 15. The instrument display of claim 8 including a structure redirecting light within at least one of said light guides.
- 16. An instrument display, comprising:
a first light guide; a second light guide spaced from said first light guide wherein at least one of said light guides directs light to an instrument display mark; and a support connecting said first light guide to said second light guide, limiting light transmission between said first light guide and said second light guide.
- 17. The instrument display of claim 16 wherein said support absorbs light.
- 18. The instrument display of claim 16 including a structure redirecting light within at least one of said light guides.
- 19. The instrument display of claim 16 wherein said structure comprise micro lenses.
