Claims
- 1. A mass transfer imaging element comprising a substrate having a surface colorant layer which is imagewise thermally transferable, wherein said colorant layer comprises a pigment, a polymeric binder, a fluorocarbon additive in an amount to provide a fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio from 1:20 to 1:1 and the pigment loading is in the range of 35 to 65 weight %, wherein the element is a thermal mass transfer imaging element.
- 2. A mass transfer imaging element according to claim 1 wherein said fluorocarbon additive:pigment ratio is from 1:15 to 1:1.
- 3. A mass transfer imaging element according to claim 1 wherein said fluorocarbon additive is selected from:(i) compounds comprising a fluoroaliphatic group attached to a polar group or a polar moiety and (ii) fluoropolymers having a molecular weight of at least 750 and comprising a non-fluorinated polymeric backbone having a plurality of pendant fluoroaliphatic groups, which aliphatic groups comprise the higher of (a) a minimum of three C—F bonds, or (b) in which 25% of the C—H bonds have been replaced by C—F bonds such that the fluorochemical comprises at least 15% by weight of fluorine.
- 4. A mass transfer imaging element according to claim 1 wherein said element is a thermal mass transfer element and said fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio is in the range of 1:15 to 1:3.
- 5. A mass transfer imaging element according to claim 1 wherein said element additionally comprises an IR absorber in said colorant layer or in an underlayer thereto.
- 6. The mass transfer imaging element of claim 1 wherein said fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio is from 1:10 to 1:1.
- 7. A laser addressable mass transfer donor element comprising:a substrate; a colorant layer which resides directly on one side of the substrate wherein the colorant layer is imagewise thermally transferable and comprises a polymeric binder, at least one pigment, and fluorocarbon additive in an amount to provide a fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio from 1:20 to 1:1, wherein the at least one pigment is in the range of 35 to 65 weight %; and an IR absorber, wherein the IR absorber is located either in the colorant layer or in a separate layer between the substrate and the colorant layer.
- 8. The donor element of claim 7 wherein the fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio is in the range from 1:15 to 1:3.
- 9. The donor element of claim 7 wherein fluorocarbon additive is selected from(i) compounds comprising a fluoroaliphatic group attached to a polar group or polar moiety and (ii) fluoropolymers having a molecular weight of at least 750 and comprising a non-fluorinated polymeric backbone having a plurality of pendant fluoroaliphatic groups, which aliphatic groups comprise the higher of (a) a minimum of three C—F bonds, or (b) in which 25% of the C—H bonds have been replace by C—F bonds such that the fluorochemical comprises at least 15% by weight fluorine.
- 10. A color proof comprising a receptor and a color image comprising at least a cyan, magenta, yellow and black layer, therein prepared by providing a mass transfer imaging element comprising a substrate having a surface colorant layer which is thermally imagewise transferable, wherein the colorant layer comprises a polymeric binder, at least one of cyan, magenta, yellow and black pigments in the range of 35 to 65 weight % and fluorocarbon additive such that the fluorocarbon additive:pigment weight ratio is from 1:20 to 1:2.
