Claims
- 1. A plant transformed with an isolated DNA sequence encoding a protein having the amino acid sequence as represented by any one of SEQ ID NO:5, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:7, SEQ ID NO:15 or SEQ ID NO:16.
- 2. The plant of claim 1, wherein said protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:5.
- 3. The plant of claim 1, wherein said protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:6.
- 4. The plant of claim 1, wherein said protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:7.
- 5. The plant of claim 1, wherein said protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:15.
- 6. The plant of claim 1, wherein said protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:16.
- 7. Seeds and progeny of a plant as claimed in claim 1.
- 8. A plant transformed with an isolated DNA sequence encoding a protein which has an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 15 and SEQ ID NO: 16.
- 9. The plant of claim 8, wherein said protein has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5.
- 10. The plant of claim 8, wherein said protein has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 6.
- 11. The plant of claim 8, wherein said protein has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 7.
- 12. The plant of claim 8, wherein said protein has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 15.
- 13. The plant of claim 8, wherein said protein has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 16.
- 14. Seeds and progeny of a plant as claimed in claim 8.
- 15. A plant transformed with a nucleotide sequence encoding a protein comprising cysteine-cysteine-(serine or threonine)-(one amino acid)-(tryptophan, tyrosine, or phenylalanine)-glycine-(tryptophan, tyrosine, or phenylalanine)-cysteine-glycine (SEQ ID NO:21), wherein said protein has antimicrobial and/or antifungal activity.
- 16. The plant of claim 15, wherein said protein comprises a central cysteine motif of cysteine-(four amino acids)-cysteine-cysteine-(five amino acids)-cysteine-(six amino acids)-cysteine (SEQ ID NO:22).
- 17. The plant of claim 15, wherein said protein has an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:5, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:7, SEQ ID NO:15 and SEQ ID NO:16.
- 18. Seeds and progeny of a plant as claimed in claim 15.
- 19. The plant of claim 15, wherein said antimicrobial and/or antifungal activity is activity against plant pathogenic fungi resulting in hyphal branching.
- 20. The plant of claim 15 wherein said protein has a ratio of basic amino acids to acidic amino acids of 5:1, 4:1 or 3:1.
