Claims
- 1. A method for gas exchange between a package and ambient atmosphere, and for reducing the amount of liquid weep from the package, characterized by overwrapping a tray web containing goods with a lidding web, wherein the lidding web has an area of microperforations adjacent to a web tray recess that is in communication with a web tray cavity.
- 2. A web tray overwrapped with a lidding web, characterized by a lidding web with microperforations located at a side portion of the tray web and adjacent a tray web recess, wherein said recess is in communication with a tray web cavity.
- 3. The web tray of claim 2, comprising a nonperforated area of the lidding web adjacent to the recess boundary of the tray web.
- 4. A tray web, comprising:
plurality of tray walls forming a tray cavity; a tray flange surrounding the tray cavity on the upper portion of the walls; at least one flap connected to the tray flange, wherein the flap is foldable and bondable to at least one tray wall; a recessed flap portion facing outward; and recessed portion on the tray flange connecting the tray cavity to the flap recess.
- 5. The tray web of claim 4, wherein a lidding web having a microperforated area is sealed to the tray web, and the microperforated area is adjacent to the flap recess portion.
- 6. The tray web of claim 5, wherein a nonperforated area of the lidding web is located from the lower boundary of the flap recess to the microperforated area.
- 7. The tray web of claim 6, wherein liquids can accumulate in the flap recess bounded by the nonperforated area.
- 8. The tray web of claim 6, wherein gas may be exchanged between the tray cavity and ambient atmosphere through the microperforated area.
- 9. The tray web of claim 4, wherein the recess portion on the flange includes serrations.
- 10. A method of packaging meat in a tray web, comprising:
overwrapping a tray web with a lidding web, wherein the lidding web has microperforations that are placed adjacent to a recess that is in communication with the tray cavity containing the meat.
- 11. A tray web, comprising:
a plurality of tray walls forming a tray cavity wherein the exterior side of at least one tray wall includes a cupped recess, said cupped recess being in communication with the tray cavity through recessed portions extending from the cupped recess to the tray cavity.
- 12. The tray web of claim 11, wherein a lidding web having a microperforated area is sealed to the tray web, and the microperforated area is adjacent to the cupped recess.
- 13. The tray web of claim 12, wherein a nonperforated area of the lidding web is located from the lower boundary of the cupped recess to the microperforated area.
- 14. The tray web of claim 13, wherein liquids can accumulate in the cupped recess bounded by the nonperforated area.
- 15. The tray web of claim 11, wherein a gas may be exchanged between the tray cavity and ambient atmosphere through the microperforated area.
- 16. The tray web of claim 11, wherein the recessed portions extending from the cupped recess to the tray cavity includes serrations.
