Claims
- 1. A compound having the following structural formula ##STR5## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of OCH.sub.3, NO.sub.2, F, Cl, Br, and H; R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of OCH.sub.3, H, and Cl; and R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of H and Cl, provided that if R.sup.1 is NO.sub.2, Cl, F, or Br, R.sup.2 =R.sup.3 =H; that if R.sup.2 =Cl then R.sup.1 =R.sup.3 =H; that if R.sup.3 =Cl then R.sup.2 =R.sup.3 =H and that if R.sup.1 =OCH.sub.3, then R.sup.2 =R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 =H.
- 2. A compound having the following structural formula ##STR6## wherein R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of H and CH.sub.3, R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of H and CH.sub.3, R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, R.sup.7 is selected from the group consisting of H and OH, and R.sup.8 is selected from the group consisting of H and OH; provided that either R.sup.7 or R.sup.8 =OH, that at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 =CH.sub.3 and that at least two of R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup..differential. and R.sup.8 =H.
- 3. A method of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells selected from the group of cell lines consisting of P388, OVCAR-3, SF295, A498, NCI-460, KM20L2 and SK-MEL-3, comprising of engaging said selected cell with a cell growth inhibitory amount of the compound having the following structural formula: ##STR7## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of OCH.sub.3, NO.sub.2, F, Cl, Br, and H; R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of OCH.sub.3, H, and Cl; and R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of H and Cl, provided that if R.sup.1 is NO.sub.2, Cl, F, or Br, R.sup.2 =R.sup.3 =H; that if R.sup.2 =Cl then R.sup.1 =R.sup.3 =H; that if R.sup.3 =Cl then R=R.sup.2 =H and that if R.sup.1 =OCH.sub.3, then R.sup.2 =R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 =H.
- 4. A method of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells selected from the group of cell lines consisting of P388, OVCAR-3, SF295, A498, NCI-460, KM20L2 and SK-MEL-3, comprising of engaging said cell line with a cell growth inhibitory amount of the compound having the following structural formula: ##STR8## wherein R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of H and CH.sub.3, R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of H and CH.sub.3, R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and H, R.sup.7 is selected from the group consisting of H and OH, and R.sup.8 is selected from the group consisting of H and OH; provided that either R.sup.7 of R.sup.8 =OH, that at least one of R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 =CH.sub.3 and that at least two of R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 =H.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 =H or Cl, R.sup.2 =H or Cl and R.sup.3 =Cl or H.
- 6. A method according to claim 3 wherein R.sup.1 =H or Cl, R.sup.2 =H or Cl, and R.sup.3 =Cl or H.
- 7. A compound according to claim 2 wherein R.sup.4 =H, R.sup.5 =CH.sub.3, R.sup.6 =H, R.sup.7 =OH or H, R.sup.8 =OH or H and R.sup.7 .noteq.R.sup.8.
- 8. A method according to claim 4 wherein R.sup.4 =H, R.sup.5 =CH.sub.3, R.sup.6 =H, R.sup.7 =OH or H, R.sup.8 =OH or H, and R.sup.7 .noteq.R.sup.8.
