Claims
- 1. A document recorder, having means for feeding and photographing both sides of a document, comprising:
- a. first belt means (10) to translate a document to a photographing station (67),
- b. first control means (73, 74, 171) to stop said first belt means, and after a time interval to accommodate photographing to reverse the direction of motion of said first belt means,
- c. second belt means (8) disposed in part adjacently parallel to said first belt means, having a curvilinear part, and also having an inclined part to return said document to said first belt means, thereby to turn said document over,
- d. pneumatic means (51, 55, 54) adjacent to both said belts to transfer said document from said first to said second belt means while said first belt means is in reversed motion, and
- e. second control means (70, 130) coactive with said first and second belt means to reconvey said transferred document from said second to said first belt means
- and thereon again to said photographing station to accommodate photographing the second side thereof.
- 2. The document recorder of claim 1, in which:
- a. said second belt means (8) is closely above said first belt means (10), and
- b. said pneumatic means includes pressure means (58, 210) associated with said first belt means,
- and vacuum means associated with said second belt means (54), to raise said document from said first to said second belt means.
- 3. The document recorder of claim 1 in which;
- a. said second belt means (8) is disposed with respect to said first belt means (10) such that the inclined part of said second belt means lies at an angle of less than 25.degree. to said first belt means, and
- b. the gap between the inclined part of said second belt means and said first belt means is less than half of the along-the-belt length of the shortest document to be handled.
- 4. The document recorder of claim 1, which additionally includes;
- a. sensor means (73, 74) having a dead zone disposed to halt a document at said photographing station,
- b. first belt bi-directional drive means (11),
- c. tachometer means (120) mechanically connected to said bi-directional drive means
- to intermittently connect the drive means to said first belt means (10)
- when said document upon said first belt is returning to said dead zone,
- whereby the effective return velocity of said first belt is a fraction of the forward velocity thereof.
- 5. The document recorder of claim 1, in which said first control means comprises;
- a. plural sensors (73, 74) responsive to the position of said document,
- b. state counter means (171) connected to said sensors for control thereby,
- c. logic means (175 to 199) connected to said state counter means to develop control signals, and
- d. electromechanical means (180, 181, 184) electrically connected to said logic means and mechanically connected to said first belt means for the control thereof.
- 6. The document recorder of claim 1, in which said second control means comprises;
- a. a further sensor (70) responsive to the position of said document,
- b. state counter means (171) connected to said further sensor for control thereby, and
- c. logic means (175 to 199) connected to said state counter means to return said first belt means to forward motion,
- whereby said document is transferred from said second to said first belt means
- for return to said photographing station.
- 7. The document recorder of claim 1, which additionally includes;
- a. an initial belt means (31),
- b. a sensor (39) responsive to the position of said document upon said initial belt means, and
- c. means to control (130 to 147) the starting and stopping of said initial belt means,
- whereby preselected placement of said document upon said initial belt means starts said initial means for the translation of said document to said first belt means.
