Claims
- 1. A storage media for storing information comprising:
- a substrate including a polymer material with a molecular weight greater than 5,000 on its upper surface;
- the polymer material having a plurality of piles of molecular chains in selected areas formed by pushing molecular chains of the polymer material on the surface to the selected area with a mechanical tool whereby information is written therein.
- 2. A molecular bar-code comprising:
- a substrate including a polymer material with a molecular weight greater than 5,000 on its upper surface; the polymer material having a plurality of piles of molecular chains in selected areas forming a series of parallel lines, the piles being formed by pushing molecular chains of the polymer material on the surface to the selected areas with a mechanical tool whereby information is written therein.
- 3. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyester, polycarbonate, polyolefin, polyether ketone, polyether, polyacrylate, photo cross linked polymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the molecular chains of the polymer on the surface outside the plurality of piles are parallel to the surface.
- 5. The storage media of claim 4, wherein the molecular chains of the polymer on the surface outside the plurality of piles have an orientation function in the range from 0.3 to 1.
- 6. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature selected with respect to an ambient temperature whereby the piles of molecular chains are substantially level after a predetermined time.
- 7. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature selected with respect to a selected temperature for writing and a selected temperature for storage.
- 8. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature selected which is below a selected writing temperature in the range from 0.degree. to 100.degree. C.
- 9. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature selected which is above a selected writing temperature.
- 10. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature which is in the range from 0.degree. to 100.degree. C. below a selected storage temperature.
- 11. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has a glass temperature which is above a selected storage temperature.
- 12. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer at the upper surface has a lower density due to agitating or disturbing molecular chains at the upper surface of the polymer by rapid heating to raise the temperature faster than the longest relaxation time of the molecular chains and subsequent cooling.
- 13. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer is photo sensitive.
- 14. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer may be cross linked subsequent after the plurality of piles are formed by one of photo, chemical, or thermal action.
- 15. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has an upper surface which has a root mean square roughness of less than 100 nm.
- 16. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the polymer has an upper surface which has a root mean square roughness of less than 5 nm.
- 17. The storage media of claim 1, wherein the piles of molecular chains are pushed to selected areas around the periphery of a pixel on the upper surface of the material such that sixteen different pile configurations within the pixel is possible.
- 18. The molecular bar-code of claim 2, wherein the substrate is a silicon wafer having a polyimide upper surface.
- 19. The molecular bar-code of claim 18, wherein the information written contains the fabrication steps used in the processing of the silicon wafer.
