Claims
- 1. A stabilization device for use in resisting backward tilting about a horizontal axis of a movable vise, said vise being formed for gripping of a work piece and mounted for reciprocation on viseways on a feed table to enable feeding of said work piece to a machine tool, such as a band saw, comprising:
- a stabilizing bar formed to be rigidly secured to said vise and formed to extend a substantial distance from said vise in a direction away from said machine tool, said stabilizing bar being further formed for engagement with and bearing upon a portion of said feed table remotely of said vise to provide a pivot point for tilting of said vise at a substantial distance away from said vise.
- 2. A stabilization device for a movable vise as defined in claim 1 wherein,
- said stabilizing bar is formed to resist benging about a transverse horizontal axis and is further formed to permit deflection of said vise in a direction transverse to the direction of reciprocation of said vise.
- 3. A stabilization device for a movable vise as defined in claim 1, and
- bearing surface means formed for securement to said feed table at a position on the side of said vise away from said machine tool, said stabilizing bar being formed for cooperative engagement with said bearing surface to provide said pivot point.
- 4. A stabilization device for a movable vise as defined in claim 1 wherein,
- said bearing surface means is provided by a track formed to extend along the direction of reciprocation of said vise over a distance equal to the length of reciprocation of said vise, and
- said stabilizing bar is formed proximate a distal end thereof with track engaging means formed for sliding engagement with said track.
- 5. A feed table for use in feeding work pieces to a machine tool such as a band saw, said feed table including a frame having an upwardly facing work piece supporting surface, a vise movably mounted to said frame proximate said supporting surface for reciprocation toward and away from said machine tool to enable feeding of a work piece thereto, said vise being formed for selective gripping and release of said work piece, wherein the improvement in said feed table comprises:
- vise tilting stabilization means having a movable portion secured for movement with said vise means and a stationary portion mounted to said frame, said movable portion being formed as an elongated arm rigidly secured to said vise means and extending a substantial distance from said vise means in a direction away from said machine tool, said stationary portion being formed as a bearing surface extending along the direction of movement of said vise means over a portion of said frame on the side of said vise means away from said machine tool, and said movable portion further including bearing means positioned proximate the end of said arm remote of said vise means, said bearing means being formed for engagement with said bearing surface for all positions of said vise means.
