Claims
- 1. Towable vehicle apparatus for collecting and dumping waste material, comprising:
- floor means having a forward end, a rear end, and a pair of spaced apart sides;
- a pair of side walls spaced apart from each other and extending upwardly from the sides of said floor means;
- said floor means supported in part by at least one wheeled axle mounted to the underside of said floor means adjacent the rear end thereof;
- said floor means having trailer hitch means mounted at the forward end of said floor means;
- a front wall mounted to said floor means at the said forward end and extending diagonally upward therefrom in a forward direction, so that said front wall terminates at an upper end which is spaced above and forward of the forward end of said floor means;
- each of said side walls extending forwardly and upwardly from said forward end of said floor means to join said diagonally extending front wall; and
- said upper end of said front wall being spaced above and in front of said trailer hitch means.
- 2. Apparatus as in claim 1, wherein said trailer hitch means extends beyond and in front of said forward end of said floor means, so that said front wall extends from a lowermost location behind said trailer hitch means to said upper end which is spaced above and forward of said trailer hitch means.
- 3. A vehicle as in claim 1, further comprising partition means disposed between said side walls and selectively dividing said towable vehicle into a number of compartments.
- 4. The vehicle as in claim 1, further comprising:
- a support member selectively movable into downwardly depending position beneath said floor means for contact with a trailer support surface;
- means defining a socket for selectively receiving and retaining a mating portion of said support member to retain said support member in said downwardly depending position;
- locking means interconnecting said support member with said socket, said locking means being selectively operative to lock said support member in said depending position and being operative in response to elevation of said towable vehicle above said predetermined elevation to unlock said support member; and
- said locking means comprising a lost motion connection which permits said support member, when in downwardly depending position, to undergo a limited extent of motion with respect to said socket as said towable vehicle is raised or lowered with respect to said predetermined elevation, so that said support member enters said retaining socket and is thereby locked into said downwardly depending position by said socket when said towable vehicle is lowered to said predetermined elevation for surface support by said support member, and so that said support member is withdrawn from said socket when said towable vehicle is raised above said predetermined elevation.
- 5. The vehicle as in claim 4, further comprising:
- means on the underside of said floor means and having an operating member extending along said underside for manipulation by an operator, said means being operatively connected to said support member for pivotally moving said unlocked support member, when withdrawn from said socket, upwardly to a raised position away from said surface contact.
