Claims
- 1. A xerographic imaging process wherein latent electrostatic images are created on a moving photoreceptor through exposure of image originals by flash exposure means, with non-image areas of said photoreceptor being discharged by ID erase lamp means, comprising the steps of:
- (a) measuring the illumination intensity of said flash exposure means for each image; and
- (b) adjusting the intensity of said ID erase lamp means so that the intensity of said ID erase lamp means for each image is substantially equal to the intensity of said flash exposure means.
- 2. The process recited in claim 1 including the steps of:
- (a) pre-exposing each image original prior to actuation of said flash exposure means;
- (b) measuring the illumination level required to expose said image original;
- (c) adjusting the illumination intensity of said flash exposure means to provide said illumination level;
- (d) adjusting the illumination intensity of said ID erase lamp means so that the exposure intensity of said ID erase lamp means is substantially equal to the adjusted illumination intensity of said flash exposure means.
- 3. In a reproduction machine having a photoreceptor on which images to be produced are created, at least one flash lamp for image exposure, and an ID erase lamp for discharging non-image areas of said photoreceptor, the combination of:
- (a) intensity measuring means for measuring the illumination intensity of said flash lamp; and
- (b) control means responsive to said intensity measuring means for adjusting the exposure intensity of said ID erase lamp so that the exposure intensity of said Id erase lamp is substantially equal to the exposure intensity of said flash lamp.
- 4. The machine according to claim 3 in which said flash lamp normally has a predetermined image exposure intensity,
- (a) a relatively small preflash lamp for exposing said images;
- (b) means for actuating said preflash lamp before said flash lamp;
- (c) said intensity measuring means measuring the illumination level required to expose said image from exposure of said image by said preflash lamp;
- (d) said control means increasing the intensity of said flash lamp where the illumination intensity required to expose said image is greater than said flash lamp predetermined image exposure intensity,
- said control means adjusting the illumination intensity of said ID erase lamp so that the exposure intensity of said ID erase lamp is substantially equal to the increased exposure intensity of said flash lamp.
