Claims
- 1. Apparatus for delivering air for air conditioning a zone of a building, said apparatus comprising, in combination, a mixing chamber having a first and a second air inlet, means for delivering primary, conditioned air through said first inlet to said chamber, means effective to vary the rate at which primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber between a maximum and a predetermined lesser rate, an outlet operatively connected to deliver air from said chamber to the zone of the building, induction means operative to induce a flow of air into said chamber through the said second inlet thereof for mixture therein with primary conditioned air and delivery therewith through said outlet to the building zone, and means within said apparatus for transferring heat to the air induced to flow through said second inlet prior to the time it is mixed with primary conditioned air.
- 2. Apparatus for delivering air for air conditioning a zone of a building, said apparatus comprising, in combination, a mixing chamber having a first and a second air inlet, means for delivering primary, conditioned air through said first inlet to said chamber, means effective to vary the rate at which primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber between a maximum and a predetermined lesser rate, an outlet operatively connected to deliver air from said chamber to the zone of the building, induction means operative to induce a flow of air into said chamber through the said second inlet thereof for mixture therein with primary conditioned air and delivery therewith through said outlet to the building zone, and means for transferring heat from the air induced to flow through said second inlet prior to the time it is mixed with primary conditioned air.
- 3. Apparatus for delivering air for air conditioning a zone of a building, said apparatus comprising, in combination, a mixing chamber having a first and a second air inlet, means for delivering primary, conditioned air through said first inlet to said chamber, means effective to vary the rate at which primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber between a maximum and a predetermined lesser rate, an outlet operatively connected to deliver air from said chamber to the zone of the building, induction means operative to induce a flow of air into said chamber through the said second inlet thereof for mixture therein with primary conditioned air and delivery therewith through said outlet to the building zone, and means for transferring heat to and from the air induced to flow through said second inlet prior to the time it is mixed with primary conditioned air.
- 4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 3 which additionally includes control means operable to prevent the transfer of heat to the induced flow of air except when primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber at the predetermined lesser rate.
- 5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2 or 3 which additionally includes control means operable to prevent the transfer of heat from the induced flow of air except when primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber at the maximum rate.
- 6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 which additionally includes control means operable (1) to prevent the transfer of heat to the induced flow of air except when primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber at the predetermined lesser rate and (2) to prevent the transfer of heat from the induced flow of air except when primary conditioned air is delivered to said chamber at the maximum rate.
- 7. In apparatus for delivering air for air conditioning a zone of a building, said apparatus comprising, in combination, means for receiving primary, conditioned air, and for delivering that air to the zone, means for inducing a flow of air from the zone in first and second separate streams, for mixing such induced air with primary, conditioned air, and for delivering such mixture to the zone, the improvement of means effective to vary the rate at which primary, conditioned air is delivered to the zone between a maximum and a predetermined lesser rate as the air conditioning load on the space varies between a maximum and a minimum load, means for controlling the flow of air in the first stream so that such flow is at a maximum when the air conditioning load is at a maximum and continues as the load varies between maximum and intermediate, means for controlling the flow of air in the second stream so that such flow is at a maximum when the air conditioning load is at a minimum, varies from the maximum to zero as the load varies between minimum and intermediate, and is zero as the air conditioning load varies between intermediate and maximum.
- 8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 which additionally includes means for heating the second stream of air to a temperature higher than that of the zone.
- 9. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 wherein the means for inducing a flow of air in at least one of the two streams is a blower.
- 10. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 which additionally includes a chamber operatively connected to receive the variable stream of primary, conditioned air and to deliver such air to the zone, and means associated with said chamber operable to cause such air being delivered to the zone to induce a flow of air from within said chamber for mixture and delivery to the zone with such primary conditioned air, and wherein said apparatus is operative to deliver the two streams of induced air to said chamber.
- 11. Apparatus as claimed in claim 10 which additionally includes means operative to deliver a second stream of primary conditioned air to said chamber.
- 12. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 which additionally includes a heat source positioned to transfer heat to the second induced stream of air between the time that flow leaves the zone and the time it is returned thereto as a mixture with primary, conditioned air.
- 13. Apparatus as claimed in claim 12 wherein said heat source is positioned to transfer heat to the second induced stream of air before mixture thereof with primary, conditioned air, and wherein said apparatus includes means for controlling the rate at which the second stream of air is induced to flow from the zone.
- 14. Apparatus as claimed in claim 12 wherein the means for inducing a flow of air in at least one of two streams is a blower.
- 15. Apparatus as claimed in claim 12 which additionally includes a chamber operatively connected to receive the variable stream of primary, conditioned air and to deliver such air to the zone, and means associated with said chamber operable to cause such air being delivered to the zone to induce a flow of air from within said chamber for mixture and delivery to the zone with such primary conditioned air, and wherein said apparatus is operative to deliver the two streams of induced air to said chamber.
- 16. Apparatus as claimed in claim 15 which additionally includes means operative to deliver a second stream of primary conditioned air to said chamber.
- 17. Apparatus as claimed in claim 12 wherein said heat source is positioned to transfer heat directly to the zone as well as to the induced flow of air, and said apparatus includes means for varying the amount of heat transferred by said heat source to the zone and to the induced flow of air.
- 18. Air delivery apparatus comprising, in combination, an air bar assembly and an induction unit, said air bar assembly comprising an air delivery section including an elongate channel having a web and opposed sidewalls, there being a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings in the web of said channel, means operatively associated with said channel and effective in combination therewith to form a duct having the web of said channel as one wall, the duct being essentially closed except for the openings in the web of said channel, said induction unit having an inlet for conditioned air, there being an opening from the exterior of said induction unit to the interior thereof, and means for inducing a flow of air from the exterior thereof into said induction unit, said last-named means being effective to mix induced air with primary air in said induction unit, and means for delivering a mixture of primary air and induced air from said induction unit to the interior of said air bar assembly.
- 19. Air delivery apparatus as claimed in claim 18, and additionally including means for varying the temperature of the mixture of primary air and induced air delivered to said air bar assembly.
- 20. Air delivery apparatus as claimed in claim 18 or 19 wherein said air-flow inducing means includes a blower.
- 21. Air delivery apparatus as claimed in claim 18 wherein said induction unit includes a chamber having the opening from the exterior of said induction unit to the interior thereof, and wherein said flow inducing means is effective to induce a flow of air from said chamber for mixture with primary air and delivery to said air bar assembly.
- 22. Air delivery apparatus as claimed in claim 21 which additionally includes means operable to deliver a second stream of primary, conditioned air to said chamber, means for controlling the flow of air through the opening and into said chamber, and means for controlling the delivery of the second stream of primary air to said chamber.
- 23. Air delivery apparatus as claimed in claim 22 which includes a second opening from the exterior of said unit into the interior of said chamber, and means for controlling the flow of air through the second opening.
- 24. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein said means for transferring heat to and from the induced flow of air includes a heat pump.
