- 7. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the at least one cutting-line indicator is adjustable between a first operable position where the cutting-line indicator indicates a cutting line and a second position extending away from the extension portion.
- 8. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the body is generally the shape of a triangle.
- 9. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the body is configured to be reversible between both a left-handed user orientation and a right-handed user orientation by rotating the alignment device body about the first alignment edge.
- 10. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the body further comprises a plurality of pitch selectors configured to set a plank at a selected angle.
- 11. The alignment device of claim 10, wherein the plurality of pitch selectors include a plurality of pitch selection holes, where each hole corresponds to a premeasured angle and is configured to receive a set pin to indicate a user-selected angle.
- 12. The alignment device of claim 10, wherein the body includes a level indicator configured to be used in combination with the pitch selectors to identify when the plank is at the selected angle.
- 13. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the extension portion is lockable in a compact position, wherein the extension portion is substantially adjacent to the alignment device body.
- 14. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the body further comprises a cutting device support configured to maintain the cutting device in an operable position.
- 15. The alignment device of claim 14, wherein the cutting device support is selectively detachable and attachable to the body.
- 16. The alignment device of claim 1, wherein the body further comprises at least one gripping member pivotally attached to the alignment device and configured to retain the alignment device against a plank.
- 17. A method of guiding a cutting device comprising:
positioning an alignment device body on a plank such that an extension portion of the alignment device body is pivotal relative to the alignment device body; moving an adjustable cutting-line indicator along the extension portion to mark an intended cutting line; aligning a cutting device so that a portion of the cutting device travels adjacent to the alignment device body, and a cutter mechanism of the cutting device travels in line with the adjustable cutting-line indicator; and contacting the extension portion with the cutting device such that the extension portion is displaced from an alignment position to a pass-through position.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein moving an adjustable cutting-line indicator along the extension portion to mark an intended cutting line includes sliding the at least one adjustable cutting-line indicator along a track on the extension portion to a user-selectable position.
- 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising securing the at least one adjustable cutting-line indicator with a locking member.
- 20. The method of claim 17, wherein moving an adjustable cutting-line indicator along the extension portion to mark an intended cutting line includes rotating the adjustable cutting-line indicator to an operable position and securing the adjustable cutting-line indicator with a locking member.
- 21. The method of claim 17, further comprising selectively attaching a cutting device support to maintain the cutting device in an operable position.
- 22. The method of claim 17, further comprising prior to positioning the alignment device body on a plank, releasing the extension portion from a compact position wherein the extension portion is substantially adjacent to the alignment device body to a second position wherein the extension portion extends outwardly from the body.
- 23. An alignment device comprising:
a body including:
a plurality of pitch selectors configured to indicate a plurality of different angles, including a first pitch selector indicating a first angle; and at least one level indicator configured to identify whether a plank is at first angle when the first pitch selector is selected and the body is positioned in a pitch measurement position on the plank.
- 24. The alignment device of claim 23, wherein the plurality of pitch selectors include a plurality of pitch selection holes, where each hole corresponds to a premeasured angle and is configured to receive a set pin to indicate a user-selected angle.
- 25. The alignment device of claim 23, wherein the body further includes an extension portion configured to be selectively positioned in a compact position adjacent the body.
- 26. The alignment device of claim 25, wherein the extension portion is pivotal relative the body.
- 27. The alignment device of claim 25, wherein the extension portion is configured to be positioned in an alignment position extending outward from the body.
- 28. The alignment device of claim 27, wherein the extension portion includes a cutting-line indicator configured to be selectively positioned on the extension portion and configured to indicate a cutting line for a cutting device when the extension portion is in the alignment position.
- 29. The alignment device of claim 23, wherein the body further comprises:
an alignment edge configured to contact a cutting device; an extension portion pivotal relative to the alignment edge; and a cutting-line indicator on the extension portion configured to indicate a cutting line for the cutting device when the body is positioned in a guide position.
- 30. A method of adjusting pitch comprising:
selecting a desired pitch selector from a plurality of pitch selectors on an alignment device body; positioning the alignment device body in a pitch measurement position against a material to be aligned; and adjusting the material to be aligned until a level indicator on the alignment device body indicates the selected pitch has been achieved.
- 31. The method of claim 30, wherein selecting a desired pitch selector from a plurality of pitch selectors on an alignment device body includes inserting a set pin in a desired pitch selection hole.
