Claims
- 1. A method for treating mammalian conditions characterized by decreases in bone mass, which method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a modified PTH or PTHrP having bone mass restoring activity which differs from naturally occurring PTH or PTHrP by changes comprising substitutions at one or more of positions (22-31), wherein the substitutions are selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID Nos. (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 85 and 86).
- 2. A method of claim 1 in which the condition to be treated is osteoporosis.
- 3. A method of claim 2 in which the effective amount of polypeptide for increasing bone mass is from about 0.002 .mu.g/kg/day to about 1 .mu.g/kg/day.
- 4. A method for treating mammalian conditions characterized by decreases in bone mass, which method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a modified parathyroid hormone (PTH) or parathyroid hormone related peptide (PTHrP) having bone mass restoring activity which differs from naturally occurring PTH or PTHrP by changes comprising substitutions at one or more of positions (22-31), wherein the substitution consists of SEQ ID No. 26.
- 5. A method for treating mammalian conditions characterized by decreases in bone mass, which method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a modified PTH or PTHrP having bone mass restoring activity which differs from naturally occurring PTH or PTHrP by changes comprising substitutions at one or more of positions (22-31), wherein the substitution consists of SEQ ID No. 27.
