Claims
- 1. An antigenic T. ovis polypeptide essentially free from T. ovis components occurring in nature and running as a 47-52 kDa doublet on SDS-PAGE, which reduces the severity of T. ovis infection in a ruminant.
- 2. A composition suitable for reducing the severity of T. ovis infection in a ruminant, said composition comprising an effective amount of an antigenic polypeptide as claimed in claim 1 in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or adjuvant.
- 3. An antigenic T. ovis polypeptide, 45W, essentially free from T. ovis components occurring in nature and running as a 47-52 kD doublet on SDS-PAGE, which reduces the severity of T.ovis infection in a ruminant, said antigenic polypeptide consisting essentially of the amino acid sequence: ##STR1##
- 4. An antigenic polypeptide as claimed in claim 3, consisting of the amino acid sequence: ##STR2##
- 5. A polypeptide as claimed in claim 3, which expressed in the host cell as a fusion protein.
- 6. A polypeptide as claimed in claim 3, which expressed as a fusion protein with the enzyme glutathione s-transferase.
- 7. A composition suitable for reducing the severity of T. ovis infection in a ruminant, said composition comprising an effective amount of an antigenic polypeptide as claimed in claim 3 in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or adjuvant.
- 8. An antigenic T. ovis polypeptide, 45W, essentially free from T. ovis components occurring in nature and running as a 47-52 kDa doublet on SDS-PAGE and reducing the severity of T. ovis infection in a ruminant, said antigenic polypeptide consisting essentially of the amino acid sequence: ##STR3## said antigenic polypeptide 45W being produced by a process comprising (i) culturing a host cell containing an expression vector which encodes and expresses said polypeptide 45W, and
- (ii) recovering said antigenic polypeptide 45W free of other naturally occurring T. ovis polypeptides.
- 9. A polypeptide as claimed in claim 1, consisting of the amino acid sequence: ##STR4##
- 10. A polypeptide claimed in claim 1, consisting of the amino acid sequence: ##STR5##
- 11. A peptide fragment of a polypeptide as claimed in claim 1, which generates a protective response to T. ovis infection having a molecular weight of about 26 kDa calculated by SDS-PAGE.
- 12. A peptide fragment of a polypeptide as claimed in claim 9, which generates a protective response to T. ovis infection having a molecular weight of 26 kDa calculated by ADS-PAGE.
- 13. A polypeptide ,as claimed in claim 1, which is the product of expression of a nucleotide sequence coding therefor in a host cell.
- 14. A polypeptide as claimed in claim 13, which is expressed in a host cell as a fusion protein.
- 15. A polypeptide as claimed in claim 14, which is expressed as a fusion protein with the enzyme glutathione s-transferase.
