Claims
- 1. Apparatus for testing a gaging system which includes a capacitor, an indicator, and means for operating the indicator in accordance with the capacitance of the capacitor, said apparatus comprising:
- a. a manually variable simulating capacitor;
- b. capacitance measuring means; and
- c. switch means shiftable between:
- (1) a first position in which the gaging system capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means;
- (2) a second position in which the simulating capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means;
- (3) a third position in which the gaging system capacitor is connected to the indicator operating means; and
- (4) a fourth position in which the simulating capacitor is connected to the indicator operating means.
- 2. Apparatus for testing a gaging system which includes a capacitor 51,52, an indicator 57, and means 56 for operating the indicator in accordance with the capacitance of the capacitor, said apparatus comprising:
- a. a manually variable simulating capacitor 62,63;
- b. capacitance measuring means 60; and
- c. switch means 61 shiftable between:
- 1. a first position in which the gaging system capacitor 51 is connected to the capacitance measuring means 60;
- 2. a second position in which the simulating capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means; and
- 3. a third position in which the simulating capacitor and the gaging system capacitor are connected in parallel to the indicator operating means.
- 3. Apparatus for testing a liquid fuel gaging system including a fuel level measuring capacitor, a fuel density compensating capacitor, an indicator, and means for operating the indicator in response to the capacitance of both the measuring capacitor and the compensating capacitor, said apparatus comprising:
- a. a first manually variable simulating capacitor;
- b. a second manually variable simulating capacitor;
- c. capacitance measuring means; and
- d. switch means shiftable between:
- 1. first, second, third and fourth positions in which the measuring capacitor, the compensating capacitor, the first simulating capacitor, and the second simulating capacitor are respectively connected to the capacitance measuring means;
- 2. a fifth position in which said first and second simulating capacitors are connected to the indicator operating means;
- 3. a sixth position in which said measuring and compensating capacitors are connected to the indicator operating means;
- 4. a seventh position in which the measuring capacitor and the first simulating capacitor are connected in parallel as a first set to the indicator operating means and only the second simulating capacitor is connected as a second set to the indicator operating means; and
- 5. an eighth position in which the measuring capacitor and the first simulating capacitor are connected in parallel as a first set to the indicator operating means, and the compensating capacitor and the second simulating capacitor are connected in parallel as a second set to the indicator operating means.
- 4. Apparatus for testing a gaging system including a capacitor, an indicator, means for operating the indicator in accordance with the capacitance of the capacitor, first and second conductor means connected to the terminals of the capacitor, a first shield for one of said conductors, third and fourth conductors connected to the indicator operating means, and a second shield for one of said third and fourth conductors, said apparatus comprising:
- a. a manually variable simulating capacitor;
- b. fifth and sixth conductors connected to the terminals of the simulating capacitor;
- c. a third shield for one of said fifth and sixth conductors;
- d. capacitance measuring means; and
- e. seventh and eighth conductors connected to the terminals of the capacitance measuring means;
- f. a fourth shield for one of said seventh and eighth conductors;
- g. switch means shiftable between:
- (1) a first position in which the gaging system capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means, and said first and fourth shields are connected;
- (2) a second position in which the simulating capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means, and said third and fourth shields are connected;
- (3) a third position in which the gaging system capacitor is connected to the indicator operating means, and said first and second shields are connected; and
- (4) a fourth position in which the simulating capacitor is connected to the indicator operating means, and said third and second shields are connected.
- 5. Apparatus for testing a gaging system which includes first and second capacitors, an indicator, and means for operating the indicator in accordance with the capacitance of the capacitors, said apparatus comprising:
- a. first and second manually variable simulating capacitors;
- b. capacitance measuring means; and
- c. switch means shiftable between:
- 1. a first position in which the first simulating capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means;
- 2. a second position in which the second simulating capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means; and
- 3. a third position in which both simulating capacitors are connected to the indicator operating means to test the accuracy of the indicator.
- 6. Apparatus for testing a gaging system which includes first and second capacitors, an indicator, and means for operating the indicator in accordance with the capacitance of the capacitors, said apparatus comprising:
- a. capacitance measuring means; and
- b. switch means shiftable between:
- 1. a first position in which the first capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means;
- 2. a second position in which the second capacitor is connected to the capacitance measuring means; and
- 3. a third position in which the first and second capacitors are connected to the indicator operating means to determine the zero indication of the indicator.
