Claims
- 1. A cooperative camera network comprising a plurality of camera nodes, wherein:
each camera node is connected to the other nodes of said plurality of camera nodes; a segmentation component connected to said plurality of camera nodes; an identification component connected to said segmentation component; and a database connected to said segmentation component and said identification component.
- 2. The cooperative camera network of claim 1, wherein said segmentation component comprises:
a differencing component; and a threshold component connected to said differencing component.
- 3. The cooperative camera network of claim 2, wherein said identification component comprises:
a histogram component; and a matching component.
- 4. The cooperative camera network of claim 3, wherein said histogram component comprises:
a color signature identifying device; and a color signature matching device connected to said database and to said color signature identifying device.
- 5. The cooperative camera network of claim 3, wherein:
said color signature identifying device identifies a color value of each pixel of a segmented image from said segmentation component for a selected color; each color value has a bin; and each bin has a magnitude determined by a number of pixels having the respective color value for the selected color.
- 6. The cooperative camera network of claim 5, wherein the bins for the selected color contribute to a color signature of the segmented image.
- 7. The cooperative camera network of claim 6, wherein:
said color signature matching device compares the color signature of the segmented image with stored segmented images in said database; any stored segmented image that has a color signature that matches the segmented image to a predetermined level is a match with the segmented image.
- 8. The cooperative camera network of claim 7, wherein there is a set of bins for each of the selected colors of a plurality of colors.
- 9. A cooperative camera network station comprising:
at least one camera; an initialization component connected to said at least one camera; a differencing component connected to said at least one camera; and a color signature extraction component connected to said differencing component.
- 10. The cooperative camera network of claim 9, further comprising a thresholding component connected to said differencing component.
- 11. The network of claim 10, further comprising:
a database component connected to said color signature extraction component; and a color signature matching component connected to said database component.
- 12. The network of claim 10, further comprising:
a display function connected to said color signature matching component; and a distributed database component connected to said database component.
- 13. A cooperative camera network comprising:
a plurality of stations, wherein each station comprises:
at least one camera; and a computer; a network connected to said plurality of stations, wherein each station comprises:
a camera; and a computer; a plurality of streamers connected to said network; and a plurality of cameras connected to each of said plurality of streamers.
- 14. The network of claim 13, wherein said computer comprises:
a segmenter connected to said at least one camera; an identifier connected to said segmenter; a database connected to said identifier and to said network; and a console connected to said identifier, segmentor and database; and wherein said console comprises:
a keyboard; a display; and a processor.
- 15. A method for identifying an object comprising:
obtaining a first image-of a scene; obtaining a second image of the scene; differencing the first and second images into a segmented image having substantially dissimilar regions of the first and second images removed; thresholding regions that have a set threshold level of dissimilarity and adding them to the segmented image;; and extracting a color signature from the segmented image; and matching the color signature with a color signature in a database.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein said extracting the color signature comprises attaining a histogram of the segmented image.
- 17. The method of claim, wherein the histogram comprises the number of pixels in the segmented image for each color value of a range of color values for a first color.
- 18. The method of claim 17, further comprising matching the histogram with a histogram of the color signature in the database.
- 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising:
selecting color values that have pixels in both histograms; noting the smaller number of pixels of the two numbers for each selected color value; adding the smaller numbers of pixels of all of the selected color values to a first sum; adding up the numbers of pixels for all of the color values of the histogram of the segmented image to a second sum; dividing the first sum by the second sum to attain a value of a match of the color signature in the database with the color signature of the segmented image, for the first color.
- 20. The method of claim 19, further comprising repeating the method of claims 18 and 19 for any other color signature in the database.
- 21. The method of claim 19, further comprising repeating the method of claim 19 for a second color.
- 22. The method of claim 21, further comprising repeating the method of claim 19 for a third color.
- 23. An identification system comprising:
means for imaging; means for initializing connected to said means for imaging; means for storing data connected to said means for imaging; means for segmenting connected to said means for storing data; and means for identifying connected to said means for storing data.
- 24. The identification system of claim 23, wherein said means for identifying comprises:
means for determining a color signature of an image; and means for comparing the color signature with at least another color signature.
- 25. The identification system of claim 24, wherein said means for identifying further comprises means for selecting color signatures from said means for storing data that match to a selected level the color signature of the image.
- 26. The identification system of claim 25, wherein said means for determining a color signature measures a color value of each pixel of the image for one color.
- 27. The identification system of claim 26, wherein said means for determining a color signature measures a color value of each pixel of the image for each of three colors.
