Claims
- 1. A plant comprising a plurality of plant cells having a reduced expression of a target gene, wherein said plant cells are produced by a method comprising the steps of transfecting a cell with a viral vector capable of replication in the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, wherein said viral vector comprises a first subgenomic promoter in functional combination with a polynucleotide which encodes a target gene inhibitor RNA, wherein said viral vector further comprises a second subgenomic promoter operably linked to a viral coat protein encoding polynucleotide.
- 2. A plant according to claim 1, wherein said first or second subgenomic promoter is a plant viral RNA subgenomic promoter.
- 3. A plant according to claim 1, wherein at least one of said subgenomic promoters is derived from a tobamovirus.
- 4. The plant according to claim 1, wherein said target gene is an endogenous plant gene.
- 5. The plant according to claim 1, wherein said target gene inhibitor RNA is an anti-sense RNA.
- 6. The plant according to claim 1, wherein said target gene inhibitor RNA is a co-suppressor RNA.
- 7. The plant according to claim 1, wherein said viral vector is obtained from a positive single-stranded RNA virus.
- 8. The plant according to claim 7, wherein said positive single-stranded RNA virus is a tobamovirus.
- 9. The plant according to claim 8, wherein said tobamovirus is a tobacco mosaic virus.
