Claims
- 1. Apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead, comprising:
- (a) an elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses;
- (b) a substantially rigid contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal; said contact having a surface confining said elastomeric element about at least 180.degree. of said perimeter;
- (c) a housing mounting said contact and having a surface, together with said surface of said contact, confining said elastomeric element about a full 360.degree. of the perimeter; and
- (d) wherein, as said contact is engaged by the lead, said elastomeric element deforms to permit movement of said contact, the deformation of said elastomeric element causing a portion of said elastomeric element to flow at least partially into at least one recess.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture for receiving said elastomeric element; said elastomeric element having a number of outward projecting portions that form a number of spatial relief regions therebetween.
- 3. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture for receiving said elastomeric element; said elastomeric element having a generally triangular shape whereby a number of spatial relief regions are formed between selected sides of the triangular shaped elastomer element and the generally circular aperture of the hook portion.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture with a diameter for receiving said elastomeric element; said elastomeric element having a diameter that is less than the diameter of the hook portion, thereby forming a number of spatial relief regions between said elastomeric element and said hook portion.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said contact includes a hook portion having a partial triangular shaped aperture for receiving said elastomeric element; said elastomeric element being generally circular in cross section, thereby forming a number of spatial relief regions between said elastomeric element and said partial triangular shaped aperture of said hook portion.
- 6. Apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead, comprising:
- (a) an elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses;
- (b) a housing, said housing having at least one contact receiving slot formed therein, said housing having a surface intersected by said at least one contact receiving slot, said at least one contact receiving slot extending substantially parallel to an axis extending between a corresponding lead and spaced terminal, said housing further having a trough for receiving said elastomeric element wherein said trough extends substantially perpendicular to the axis extending between the lead and spaced terminal;
- (c) a substantially rigid contact received within said at least one contact receiving slot, said contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal, said contact having a surface confining said elastomeric element about at least 180.degree. of said perimeter, and said contact surface, together with said trough of said housing, confining said elastomeric element about a full 360.degree. of the perimeter; and
- (d) wherein, as said contact is engaged by the lead, said elastomeric element deforms to permit movement of said contact, the deformation of said elastomeric element causing a portion of said elastomeric element to flow at least partially into at least one recess.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 6 wherein said contact receiving slot further includes at least one recess formed in a side wall thereof, and generally along the axis formed by said trough.
- 8. Apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead, comprising:
- (a) an elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses;
- (b) a housing, said housing having at least one contact receiving slot formed therein, said housing having a surface intersected by said at least one contact receiving slot, said at least one contact receiving slot extending substantially parallel to an axis extending between a corresponding lead and spaced terminal, said housing further having a trough for receiving said elastomeric element wherein said trough extends substantially perpendicular to the axis extending between the lead and spaced terminal; said contact receiving slot further including at least one recess formed in a side wall thereof, and generally along the axis formed by said trough;
- (c) a substantially rigid contact received within said at least one contact receiving slot, said contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal, said contact having a surface confining said elastomeric element about at least 180.degree. of said perimeter, and said contact surface, together with said trough of said housing, confining said elastomeric element about a full 360.degree. of the perimeter; and
- (d) wherein, as said contact is engaged by the lead, said elastomeric element deforms to permit movement of said contact.
- 9. Apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead, comprising:
- (a) a housing, said housing having at least one contact receiving slot formed therein, said housing having a surface intersected by said at least one contact receiving slot, said at least one contact receiving slot extending substantially parallel to an axis extending between a corresponding lead and spaced terminal;
- (b) a first elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses, said first elastomeric element carried by said housing such that said first elastomeric element extends across the at least one contact receiving slot;
- (c) a second elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses, said second elastomeric element carried by said housing such that said second elastomeric element extends across the at least one contact receiving slot;
- (d) a substantially rigid contact received within said at least one contact receiving slot, said contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal, a first portion of said contact engaging said first elastomeric element and a second portion of said contact engaging said second elastomeric element; said contact having a surface confining at least one of said first and said second elastomeric elements about at least 180.degree. of said perimeter, and said contact surface, along with said housing, confining at least one of said first and said second elastomeric elements about a full 360.degree. of the perimeter; and
- (e) wherein, as said contact is engaged by the lead, at least one of said first and second elastomeric elements deforms to permit movement of said contact, and wherein the at least one of the deformed first and second elastomeric elements flowing at least partially into at least one recess.
- 10. Apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said first portion of said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture for receiving said first elastomeric element; said first elastomeric element having a number of outward projecting portions that form a number of spatial relief regions between the hook portion and the first elastomeric element.
- 11. Apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said first portion of said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture for receiving said first elastomeric element; said first elastomeric element having a generally triangular shape whereby a number of spatial relief regions are formed between selected sides of the triangular shaped first elastomer element and the generally circular aperture of the hook portion.
- 12. Apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said first portion of said contact includes a hook portion having a generally circular aperture with a diameter for receiving said first elastomeric element; said first elastomeric element having a diameter that is less than the diameter of the hook portion, thereby forming a number of spatial relief regions between said first elastomeric element and said hook portion.
- 13. Apparatus according to claim 9 wherein said first portion of said contact includes a hook portion having a partial triangular shaped aperture for receiving said first elastomeric element; said first elastomeric element being generally circular in cross section, thereby forming a number of spatial relief regions between said first elastomeric element and said partial triangular shaped aperture of said hook portion.
- 14. Apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead, comprising:
- (a) a housing, said housing having at least one contact receiving slot formed therein, said housing having a surface intersected by said at least one contact receiving slot, said at least one contact receiving slot extending substantially parallel to an axis extending between a corresponding lead and spaced terminal;
- (b) a first elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses, said first elastomeric element carried by said housing such that said first elastomeric element extends across the at least one contact receiving slot;
- (c) a second elastomeric element having a perimeter formed by a uniformly irregular surface defining a plurality of substantially identical recesses, said second elastomeric element carried by said housing such that said second elastomeric element extends across the at least one contact receiving slot;
- (d) said housing further having a trough for receiving said first elastomeric element wherein said trough extends substantially perpendicular to the axis extending between the lead and spaced terminal; said contact receiving slot further including at least one recess formed in a side wall thereof, generally along the axis formed by said trough;
- (e) a substantially rigid contact received within said at least one contact receiving slot, said contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal, a first portion of said contact engaging said first elastomeric element and a second portion of said contact engaging said second elastomeric element; said contact having a surface confining at least one of said first elastomeric element and said second elastomeric element about at least 180.degree. of said perimeter, and said contact surface, together with said trough of said housing, confining at least one of said first elastomeric element and said second elastomeric element about a full 360.degree. of the perimeter; and
- (f) wherein, as said contact is engaged by the lead, at least one of said first and second elastomeric elements deforms to permit movement of said contact, and wherein the at least one of the deformed first and second elastomeric elements flowing at least partially into at least one recess.
