Claims
- 1. An apparatus comprising:
a flexible material; and a conductive trace on the flexible material, the conductive trace including a transmission structure having a plurality of transmission sections, each transmission section having an angle of deflection relative to axis parallel to the transmission structure, such that the angle of deflection of each transmission section enhances electromagnetic coupling of the transmission structure.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmission structure comprises a single conductor.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmission structure comprises at least one differential pair of conductors.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the transmission sections form a zigzag geometry.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmission sections form a zigzag geometry.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the flexible material includes a curved portion on which the transmission structure is located.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the curved portion of the flexible material, when pressed against a circuit board, includes a flat portion on which the transmission structure is located.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
a conductive reference surface that is parallel to a plane containing the first transmission structure, the conductive reference surface providing a reference potential to the transmission structure.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmission structure can transfer signals in an electronic system.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the electronic system is selected from the group comprising:
a computer system, a computer bus, a computer motherboard, a daughter card, a multi-chip module, an integrated circuit, a flex circuit, a printed circuit board, and a cable circuit.
- 11. An apparatus comprising:
a flexible material; a conductive trace on the flexible material; and a first transmission structure having a selected geometry connected to the conductive trace, such that said transmission structure is capable of forming an electromagnetic couple with a second transmission structure when said first and second transmission structures are proximate to each other, said electromagnetic couple having at least three fringe capacitance regions.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the electromagnetic couple has at least two parallel plate capacitance regions.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the selected geometry is a zig-zag geometry.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the first transmission structure comprises at least one differential pair of conductors.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the selected geometry is a zig-zag geometry.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the first transmission structure includes a plurality of transmission sections, each transmission section having an angle of deflection relative to axis parallel to the transmission structure, such that the angle of deflection of each transmission section enhances electromagnetic coupling of the transmission structure.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the flexible material, when connected to a circuit board, includes a curved portion and a flat portion.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the transmission structure is on the flat portion of the flexible material.
- 19. An apparatus comprising:
a flexible material; conductive means for conducting a signal, said conductive means on the flexible material; and a first transmission means for receiving the signal from said conductive means and for transmitting said signal, said first transmission means having a selected geometry, such that said first transmission means is capable of forming an electromagnetic couple with a second transmission means when said first and second transmission means are proximate to each other, said electromagnetic couple having a plurality of parallel plate capacitance regions and three or more fringe capacitance regions.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein said first transmission means comprises a single conductor.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein said first transmission means comprises at least one differential pair of conductors.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the selected geometry is a zig-zag geometry.
