Claims
- 1. A headwall adapted for use with a bed in a room of a healthcare facility, the room having a wall, the headwall comprising
a first service delivery unit having a first service connector to provide a first service to the bed, the first service delivery unit having a cavity, and a second service delivery unit having a second service connector to provide a second service to the bed, wherein the second service delivery unit is to be supported by at least one of the wall and the first service delivery unit for movement between a storage position in which the second service connector is positioned in the cavity and a use position in which the second service connector is positioned outside the cavity to allow the bed to dock to the second service delivery unit for transmission of the second service from the second service connector to the bed.
- 2. The headwall of claim 1, wherein the first service delivery unit has a top portion and a pair of side portions extending downwardly from the top portion, and the top portion and the side portions cooperate to provide the cavity.
- 3. The headwall of claim 2, wherein the second service delivery unit has a first end portion pivotably coupled to the side portions and an opposite second end portion having the second service outlet.
- 4. The headwall of claim 3, wherein the top portion has a notch arranged to allow access to the second end portion to pivot the second service delivery unit from the storage position to the use position.
- 5. The headwall of claim 2, wherein the second service connector faces the top portion in the storage position and faces away from the top portion in the use position.
- 6. The headwall of claim 2, wherein one of the side portions has the first service connector and the other of the side portions has a third service connector to provide a third service for transmission to the bed.
- 7. The headwall of claim 6, wherein the top portion and the side portions cooperate to provide a C-shape.
- 8. The headwall of claim 1, wherein the second service delivery unit has an end face having the second service connector and a pair of side faces extending from the end face, and the first service delivery unit surrounds the end face and the side faces when the second service delivery unit is positioned in the storage position.
- 9. The headwall of claim 1, wherein the second service delivery unit is pivotably coupled to the first service delivery unit for movement between the storage position and the use position.
- 10. The headwall of claim 1, wherein the second service delivery unit nests in the cavity in the storage position.
- 11. The headwall of claim 1, wherein the second service connector is one of an electrical power outlet to provide electrical power to the bed, a negative pressure port to provide negative pressure to the bed, a medical gas port to provide medical gas to the bed, a hydraulic fluid port to provide hydraulic fluid to the bed, and a motor to provide mechanical power to the bed.
- 12. A headwall for use with a bed in a room of a healthcare facility, the room having a wall, the headwall comprising
a support to be coupled to the wall, and a service delivery unit having a service connector, the service delivery unit being coupled to the support for pivotable movement of the service delivery unit between a storage position in which the service connector is to be positioned adjacent to the wall and a use position in which the service connector is positioned away from the first position to allow the bed to dock to the service delivery unit for transmission of a service from the service connector to the bed, the service connector being one of an electrical power outlet, a negative pressure port, a medical gas port, a hydraulic fluid port, and a motor.
- 13. The headwall of claim 12, wherein the service connector is an electrical power outlet.
- 14. The headwall of claim 12, wherein the service connector is a negative pressure port.
- 15. The headwall of claim 12, wherein the service connector is a medical gas port.
- 16. The headwall of claim 12, wherein the service connector is a hydraulic fluid port.
- 17. The headwall of claim 12, wherein the component is a motor.
- 18. A headwall arrangement adapted for use in a healthcare facility having a first room and a second room that share a common wall, the first room having a first bed therein, the second room having a second bed therein, the headwall arrangement comprising
a first headwall to be positioned in the first room to provide a first service to the first bed, a second headwall to be positioned in the second room to provide a second service to the second bed, and a bridging portion to be positioned in an opening in the common wall, the first headwall and the second headwall being coupled to the bridging portion.
- 19. The headwall arrangement of claim 18, wherein the bridging portion has service delivery equipment positioned between and in communication with the first headwall and the second headwall to provide the first service to the first headwall and the second service to the second headwall.
- 20. The headwall arrangement of claim 19, wherein the bridging portion has a housing positioned between and coupled to the first headwall and the second headwall, the housing has an interior region, and the service delivery equipment is positioned in the interior region.
- 21. The headwall arrangement of claim 19, wherein the first headwall has a first service connector to be coupled to the first bed, the second headwall has a second service connector to be coupled to the second bed, and the service delivery equipment has a pump positioned between the first headwall and the second headwall and in communication with the first service connector and the second service connector to provide the first service to the first bed and the second service to the second bed.
- 22. The headwall arrangement of claim 21, wherein the service delivery equipment has a motor coupled to the pump and positioned between the first headwall and the second headwall.
- 23. The headwall arrangement of claim 19, wherein the first headwall has a first service connector to be coupled to the first bed, the second headwall has a second service connector to be coupled to the second bed, and the service delivery equipment has a hydraulic fluid reservoir positioned between the first headwall and the second headwall and in communication with the first service connector and the second service connector to provide hydraulic fluid to the first bed and the second bed.
- 24. The headwall arrangement of claim 19, wherein each headwall has a service connector to be coupled to the respective bed, and the service delivery equipment has a hydraulic fluid reservoir to contain hydraulic fluid, a pump, and a motor to operate the pump to pump hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic fluid reservoir through each service connector to each bed.
- 25. A patient care apparatus adapted for use with a patient, the patient care apparatus comprising
a bed to support the patient, the bed having a side rail, the side rail having a cavity, and patient care equipment having a medical treatment control unit and a medical treatment line coupled to the medical treatment control unit to provide medical treatment controlled by the medical treatment control unit to the patient, the medical treatment control unit being coupled to the side rail and positioned in the cavity.
- 26. The patient care apparatus of claim 25, wherein the patient care equipment is an infusion unit having the medical treatment control unit and the medical treatment line, the medical treatment control unit has a medication container to contain medication and the medical treatment line is coupled to the medication container to conduct medication from the medication container to the patient, and the medication container is positioned in the cavity.
- 27. The patient care apparatus of claim 26, wherein the cavity has a wall, and the infusion unit has a housing that carries the medication container and is coupled to the wall.
- 28. The patient care apparatus of claim 27, wherein the side rail has a ledge, and the housing is positioned on the ledge.
- 29. The patient care apparatus of claim 28, wherein the ledge has a notch, and the medical treatment line extends through the notch.
- 30. The patient care apparatus of claim 26, wherein the medication container is a syringe.
- 31. The patient care apparatus of claim 25, wherein the wherein the patient care equipment is a vacuum bandage unit having the medical treatment control unit and the medical treatment line which has a vacuum wound bandage to provide negative pressure from the medical treatment control unit to a wound of the patient to provide vacuum therapy to the wound.
- 32. The patient care apparatus of claim 31, wherein the medical treatment control unit has a housing coupled to the side rail and positioned in the cavity, a waste collection canister to receive waste material from the vacuum wound bandage, and a negative pressure source coupled to the waste collection canister to provide negative pressure through the waste collection canister to the vacuum wound bandage, and the housing supports the waste collection canister and the negative pressure source.
- 33. The patient care apparatus of claim 25, wherein the patient care equipment is a chest drainage unit to drain material from a chest of the patient, and the chest drainage unit has the medical treatment control unit to control drainage of the material from the chest of the patient and the medical treatment line to drain the material from the chest of the patient to the medical treatment control unit.
- 34. The patient care apparatus of claim 25, further comprising a headwall coupled to the bed, and the bed has a line extending from the headwall through the bed to the medical treatment control unit.
- 35. The patient care apparatus of claim 34, wherein the line is an electrical power line.
- 36. The patient care apparatus of claim 34, wherein the line is a data communication line.
- 37. The patient care apparatus of claim 34, wherein the line is a negative pressure line.
- 38. A patient care apparatus adapted for use with a patient, the patient care apparatus comprising
a bed to support the patient, the bed having a side rail, and a chest drainage unit to drain material from a chest of the patient supported by the bed, the chest drainage unit being coupled to the side rail.
- 39. The patient care apparatus of claim 38, wherein the chest drainage unit has a control unit to control drainage of the material from the chest of the patient, and the control unit is coupled to the side rail for movement of the control unit relative to the side rail when the side rail is moved between raised and lowered positions.
- 40. The patient care apparatus of claim 39, wherein the side rail has a cavity, and the control unit extends into the cavity when the side rail is positioned in its raised position and is positioned outside the cavity when the side rail is positioned in its lowered position.
- 41. The patient care apparatus of claim 40, wherein the chest drainage unit has a linkage coupled to the side rail and the control unit to maintain the control unit in an upright orientation during movement of the control unit into and out of the cavity.
- 42. The patient care apparatus of claim 40, wherein the cavity has a wall, the side rail has a negative pressure port coupled to the wall and a data communication port coupled to the wall, and the side rail has a negative pressure line coupled to the negative pressure port and the control unit to provide negative pressure to the control unit and a data communication line coupled to the data communication port and the control unit.
- 43. The patient care apparatus of claim 38, wherein the side rail has a negative pressure port and a negative pressure line coupled to the negative pressure port and the chest drainage unit to provide negative pressure to the chest drainage unit.
- 44. The patient care apparatus of claim 38, wherein the side rail has a data communication port and a data communication line coupled to the data communication port and the chest drainage unit.
