Claims
- 1. A high pressure reactor chamber, comprising:
- an enclosed reactor tube formed of inert material capable of withstanding high pressures;
- a transparent growth tube disposed within said reactor tube; a condensing means comprising a reflux assembly having an interior surface in contact with said growth tube;
- a crucible having transparent sidewalls capable of holding a molten melt, disposed within said growth tube;
- a first opening in a sidewall of said reactor tube and including a transparent sealed plate, such that the molten melt may be viewed through said opening and said plate.
- 2. The chamber of claim 1, wherein said first opening comprises a viewport that is connected to said reactor tube at an angle in the range of approximately 5 to 45 degrees from horizontal.
- 3. The chamber of claim 1, wherein said reactor tube comprises a second opening located approximately radially adjacent said first opening and including a transparent sealed plate for projecting light in order to illuminate said melt.
- 4. The chamber of claim 3, where said second opening comprises a viewport that is connected to said reactor tube at an angle in the range of approximately 5 to 45 degrees from horizontal.
- 5. The chamber of claim 1, and further comprising a transparent furnace disposed between said reactor tube and said growth tube.
- 6. The reactor chamber of claim 1, wherein said transparent growth tube comprises quartz.
- 7. The reactor chamber of claim 1, wherein a cavity is formed between said growth tube and said reactor tube, said cavity is pressurized to a pressure approximately equivalent to the pressure inside said growth tube.
- 8. The reactor chamber of claim 1, wherein said crucible, reactor tube and growth tube, when assembled together are capable of withstanding temperatures of approximately 500.degree. C.
- 9. A high pressure reactor chamber, comprising:
- an enclosed reactor tube formed of inert material capable of withstanding high pressures;
- a transparent growth tube having an open first end and a sealed second end disposed within said reactor tube;
- said sealed end capable of holding a molten melt;
- a condensing means comprising a reflux assembly having an interior surface in contact with said growth tube; and
- a first opening in a side wall of said reactor tube and including a viewport having a transparent sealed plate, such that said melt may be viewed through said opening and said plate.
- 10. The chamber of claim 9, wherein said reactor tube comprises a second opening located approximately radially adjacent said first opening and including a viewport having a transparent sealed plate, capable of withstanding high pressures, for projecting light to illuminate said molten melt.
- 11. The chamber of claim 9, wherein said first and second viewports are connected to said reactor tube at angles in the range of approximately 5 to 45 degrees from horizontal.
- 12. A high pressure reactor chamber, comprising:
- an enclosed reactor tube comprising inert material capable of withstanding high pressures;
- a transparent growth tube disposed within said reactor tube separated therein by a cavity;
- condensing means comprising a reflux assembly having an interior surface in contact with said growth tube;
- a crucible disposed within said growth tube and having partially transparent sidewalls capable of holding a molten melt having a visible upper surface;
- a first opening in a sidewall of said reactor tube, said first opening including a transparent plate across said first opening that is capable of withstanding high pressure;
- a second opening located approximately radially adjacent said first opening for projecting light to illuminate said upper surface of said molten melt, said second opening including a transparent plate across said second opening that is capable of withstanding high pressure; and
- a transparent furnace disposed within said cavity for heating said molten melt while enabling viewing of said molten melt through said first opening.
- 13. The chamber of claim 1, wherein said reflux assembly includes a coolant such that said coolant chills said interior surface in contact with said growth tube.
- 14. The chamber of claim 12, wherein all interior surfaces of said chamber are quartz surfaces in order to prevent impurities from entering said melt.
