Claims
- 1. A method for detecting a sensitivity distribution profile of a magnetic read head, comprising the steps of:detecting a signal from a plurality of patterns disposed on a magnetic recording medium in an area different from a servo area of a zone for track width measurement so as to be deviated respectively at least more narrowly than the width of a read element of said magnetic read head, wherein a width in the track width direction of each of said plurality of patterns is narrower than the width in the track width direction of said read element, and lengths in the track length direction of said plurality of patterns are equal; wherein said magnetic recording medium includes a zone for data and said zone for track width measurement, wherein said zone for data has a data area and a servo area, and where in said zone for track width measurement has the servo area and the area different from the servo area; calculating a microtrack profile from the detected signal of said plurality of patterns; and calculating a convolution integral between said microtrack profile and a step function.
- 2. A method according to claim 1,including plurality of said servo areas, in each of which a servo pattern is recorded, are formed in the tracks; a data area in which a data pattern is written, is formed between adjacent servo areas, and a plurality of microservo areas are disposed in said data area; a length of each of said plurality of patterns in the track length direction is less than a length between said microservo areas, and an area of each said microservo area is smaller than that of each said servo area.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of patterns are disposed on two or more tracks.
- 4. A method according to claim 2, wherein said plurality of patterns are disposed on two or more tracks.
- 5. A method for detecting a sensitivity distribution profile of a read head using a magnetic recording apparatus, said method for detecting comprising the steps of:detecting a signal from a plurality of patterns on a recording medium, said recording medium having a plurality of tracks having a servo pattern, and said plurality of patterns being disposed in an area different from a servo area of a zone for track width measurement on said magnetic recording disk medium so as to be deviated respectively at least more narrowly than the width of a read element of said read head; wherein said magnetic recording medium includes a zone for data and said zone for track width measurement, wherein said zone for data has a data area and a servo area, and wherein said zone for track width measurement has the servo area and the area different from the servo area; calculating a microtrack profile from the detected signal of the plurality of patterns; and calculating a convolution integral between the microtrack profile and a step function.
- 6. A method according to claim 5,wherein said microtrack profile is calculated by combining a bead position signal from said plurality of patterns; the length in the track width direction of each of said plurality of said patterns is narrower than the length in the track width direction of the read element; and said plurality of patterns have equal lengths in the track direction.
- 7. A method according to claim 5, further comprising the step of calculating an effective read width of said read head from a read-back profile of each of said plurality of said patterns.
- 8. A method according to claim. 5, further comprising the step of correcting the non-linearity of a head position signal arrived from the servo pattern, from a read-back profile of each of said plurality of patterns.
- 9. A method according to claim 5, further comprising the step of detecting a variation of a head position signal derived from the servo pattern, from a read-back profile of each of said plurality of patterns.
- 10. A method according to claim 5, further comprising the step of detecting a variation of a read-back property of said read head, and correcting said variation if said variation is determined to be deviated from a predetermined range.
