Claims
- 1. A mechanical assembly for regulating the temperature of an electronic device; said assembly being comprised of:
- a frame which has two spaced-apart spring supports;
- a single leaf spring which extends from one of said spring supports to the other;
- a heat exchanger which contacts said leaf spring at one point, pushes said leaf spring against said spring supports, and has a face for mating with said electronic device; and,
- a stop, coupled between said heat exchanger and said frame, which positions said face in a particular plane when said heat exchanger deflects the center of said leaf spring by a predetermined minimum distance, and allows said face to pivot when the deflection of the center of said leaf spring exceeds said minimum distance.
- 2. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said heat exchanger has a convex-shaped bottom which pivots on the center of said leaf spring.
- 3. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said heat exchanger has a flat bottom with a dimple which pivots on the center of said leaf spring.
- 4. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said leaf spring has a dimple at its center on which said heat exchanger pivots.
- 5. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said leaf spring includes a gimbal at its center on which said heat exchanger pivots but cannot rotate.
- 6. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said assembly has an overall height, perpendicular to said face of said heat exchanger, to which said leaf spring contributes insignificantly.
- 7. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said stop includes a pair of alignment pins which prevent said face of said heat exchanger from moving sideways in said plane when said center of said leaf spring is deflected by said minimum distance.
- 8. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said stop includes a pair of alignment pins which prevent said face of said heat exchanger from twisting in said plane when said center of said leaf spring is deflected by said minimum distance.
- 9. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said leaf spring exerts a force on said heat exchanger which counter balances the weight of said heat exchanger, when the center of said leaf spring is deflected by said minimum distance.
- 10. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said leaf spring pivots, without bending, on each spring support as the deflection of said leaf spring by said heat exchanger changes.
- 11. An assembly according to claim 10 wherein said leaf spring gets narrower in width as the distance along the leaf spring to the closest pivot point decreases.
- 12. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said frame has a hole that underlies said leaf spring, and the center of said leaf spring moves into said hole as its deflection by said heat exchanger increases.
- 13. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said heat exchanger includes a passageway for a liquid.
- 14. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said electronic device in an integrated circuit chip.
