A method for augmenting SERCA2 mediated calcium ion transport into the sarcoplasmic reticulum of cardiac myocytes in a host, the method comprising delivering an adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector containing a SERCA2 encoding transgene into host cardiac muscle, wherein expression of the transgene induces an augmentation in SERCA2 mediated calcium ion transport in treated myocytes, as compared to untreated myocytes.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the AAV vector is contained in a colloidal dispersion system.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the host has been diagnosed as suffering from congestive heart failure.
