Claims
- 1. A method of transferring discrete areas of material from a continuous length of carrier onto discrete areas spaced apart along a substrate, comprising:moving said substrate through a transfer station with a first velocity profile, simultaneously moving the continuous length of said carrier and material through the transfer station at a second velocity profile, intermittently urging the carrier and material into successive contacts with the substrate within the transfer station in a manner to transfer at least one of said discrete areas of material from the carrier onto at least one of said discrete areas of the substrate, and moving said carrier and material through the transfer station with a third velocity profile by simultaneously adjusting path lengths followed by the carrier and material on input output sides of the transfer station by equal and opposite amounts, said third velocity profile equals the first velocity profile when the carrier and material are in contact with the substrate while, during intervals between said contacts, decelerating the carrier and material then accelerating the carrier and material.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the material being transferred to the substrate is hot stamp foil.
