Claims
- 1. A method of performing a speaker dependent speech recognition operation to detect a word in a speech signal, the method comprising the steps of:
- using a set of speaker dependent speech recognition word models corresponding to a set of words;
- using, as an out of vocabulary word model, at least one speaker independent speech recognition word model corresponding to a word not included in said set of words;
- analyzing at least a portion of the speech signal using the speaker dependent speech recognition word models and speaker independent speech recognition word model to determine the model to which the speech most probably corresponds; and
- indicating that none of the words included in the set of words have been detected in the analyzed portion of the speech signal if it is determined that the portion of the speech signal is more likely to correspond to the speaker independent speech recognition word model than to one of the speaker dependent speech recognition word models.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing step includes the step of performing a Viterbi search.
- 3. The method of claim 1,
- wherein the speaker independent word model corresponds to a command; and
- wherein the words in said set of words to which the speaker dependent speech recognition word models correspond are names.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:
- generating a speaker dependent garbage model from speech used to generate said speaker dependent word models; and
- wherein the step of analyzing at least a portion of the speech signal includes the step of utilizing the generated speaker dependent garbage model.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the analyzing step includes using a grammar which places the speaker independent word model, speaker dependent word models, and speaker dependent garbage models on parallel arcs with one another.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the analyzing step includes the step of performing a Viterbi search.
- 7. The step of claim 6, wherein the speaker independent word model and speaker dependent word models are hidden Markov models.
- 8. A speech recognition system, comprising:
- a speaker independent out of vocabulary speech recognition word model;
- a set of speaker dependent speech recognition word models; and
- means for performing a speaker dependent speech recognition operation using the speaker independent out of vocabulary word model and set of speaker dependent speech recognition word models, the speaker dependent speech recognition operation including the step of rejecting as an out of vocabulary word, speech identified using the speaker independent word model.
- 9. The speech recognition system of claim 8, further comprising:
- a speaker dependent garbage model generated from at least some of the same speech used to generate the speaker dependent speech recognition word models.
- 10. The speech recognition system of claim 9, further comprising a grammar which places the speaker independent out of vocabulary word model, speaker dependent speech recognition word models and speaker dependant garbage model on parallel arcs with one another.
- 11. The speech recognition system of claim 10, wherein the speaker dependent speech recognition word models are garbage models.
