Claims
- 1. A method for communicating with an occupant of a vehicle, comprising the steps of:
- coupling the vehicle to a means for dispensing a consumable energy source;
- transferring information from the vehicle into the dispensing means;
- receiving the transferred information; and
- selecting, in cooperation with the received information, at least one message to be input into the vehicle from the dispensing means.
- 2. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the steps of transferring and receiving are accomplished through an electrical connection.
- 3. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the steps of transferring and receiving are accomplished through a wireless connection.
- 4. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the step of selecting includes a step of choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages, the step of choosing being accomplished in accordance with received information that identifies a characteristic of an occupant of the vehicle.
- 5. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the step of selecting includes the step of choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages, the step of choosing being accomplished in accordance with received information that identifies a characteristic of the vehicle.
- 6. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein the step of selecting includes the steps of:
- obtaining, in cooperation with the received information, further information that identifies a characteristic of an occupant of the vehicle; and
- choosing, in cooperation with the obtained further information, the at least one message to be input into the vehicle.
- 7. A method as set forth in claim 1 and further including a step of transferring a message from a remote site to a memory means within the vehicle, the message being transferred through the dispensing means.
- 8. A method as set forth in claim 1 and further including a step of transferring a message from a memory means within the vehicle to a remote site, the message being transferred through the dispensing means.
- 9. A method as set forth in claim 7 and further including a step of presenting the transferred message, within the vehicle, in a human perceptible form.
- 10. A method as set forth in claim 7 and further including a step of transmitting a message acknowledgment signal from the vehicle to the remote site through the dispensing means.
- 11. A method as set forth in claim 7 and further including a step of generating, within the vehicle, a hard copy of the transferred message.
- 12. A method as set forth in claim 8 and including the initial steps of:
- entering the message with a vehicle data entry means; and
- storing the entered message within a vehicle memory means.
- 13. A system for dispensing a consumable energy source to a vehicle, comprising:
- means for dispensing a consumable energy source to a vehicle;
- means for coupling the vehicle to the means for dispensing the consumable energy source;
- a memory located within the vehicle;
- means for transferring indicia from the memory to the dispensing means;
- means for receiving the transferred indicia; and
- means for selecting, in cooperation with the received indicia, at least one message to be provided in human perceptible form to an occupant of the vehicle.
- 14. A system as set forth in claim 13 wherein the means for selecting includes means for choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages in accordance with a received indicia that identifies a characteristic of an occupant of the vehicle.
- 15. A system as set forth in claim 13 wherein the means for selecting includes means for choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages in accordance with a received indicia that identifies a characteristic of the vehicle.
- 16. A system as set forth in claim 13 wherein the means for selecting includes means for choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages in accordance with a received indicia that identifies a destination of the vehicle.
- 17. A system for inputting a message to a vehicle, comprising:
- means for outputting a message to a vehicle;
- means for coupling the vehicle to the means for outputting;
- means for transferring indicia from a memory within the vehicle to the outputting means;
- means for receiving the transferred indicia; and
- means for selecting, in cooperation with the received indicia, at least one message to be input into the vehicle through the means for outputting, wherein the means for selecting includes means for choosing the at least one message from a plurality of messages in accordance with a received indicia that selectively identifies at least one of a characteristic of an occupant of the vehicle, a characteristic of the vehicle, and a destination of the vehicle.
- 18. A system as set forth in claim 17 wherein the means for transferring and the means for receiving are each comprised of electrical connection means.
- 19. A system as set forth in claim 17 wherein the means for transferring and the means for receiving are each comprised of wireless connection means.
- 20. A system for providing a message to a vehicle, comprising:
- a local station that includes means for bidirectionally coupling to a vehicle for transferring information including messages between said local station and a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station;
- message storage means for storing a plurality of messages; and
- message selection means having an input coupled to said local station for receiving information that is transferred from a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station, said message selection means being further coupled to said message storage means for choosing at least one message from said plurality of messages in accordance with received information that selectively identifies at least one of a characteristic of an occupant of a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station, a characteristic of a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station, and a destination of a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station, said message selection means further including an output coupled to said local station for outputting the selected message thereto for inputting to the vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled to said local station.
- 21. A system as set forth in claim 20 wherein said local station further includes means for dispensing a consumable energy source to a vehicle that is bidirectionally coupled thereto.
- 22. A system as set forth in claim 20 wherein the selected message is selected from a group consisting of solicited messages and unsolicited messages.
- 23. A system as set forth in claim 20 wherein the selected message is selected at least in part as a function of the location the local station.
