Claims
- 1. In a method of treating a mammal in need thereof by administering an antibody preparation the improvement comprising administering to said mammal an antibody preparation comprising biologically active antibodies of the IgM type wherein said antibodies of the IgM type comprise at least about 20% by weight of the total amount of antibodies, the preparation having the characteristics of generating non-specific complement activation of less than about 1.0 ug/ml C4.sub.a in an in vitro assay, retaining antigen binding ability and being capable of generating specific complement activating activity.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein said antibody preparation comprises at least about 50% by weight of the total amount of antibodies.
- 3. The method according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the administration is intravenous at a rate of about 1 mg/Kg/min.
