Claims
- 1. A protein of at least 30 kDal comprising at least 50 number percent of amino acids of at least one naturally occurring repeating unit of a naturally occurring structural protein and of from 3 to 20 amino acids, each of the same said repeating unit having the same amino acids.
- 2. A protein according to claim 1, wherein said repeating unit is of from 3 to 15 amino acids.
- 3. A protein according to claim 1, wherein said repeating unit is of from 3 to 9 amino acids.
- 4. A protein according to claim 1, wherein said repetitive units are in blocks of at least 2 repetitive units.
- 5. A protein according to claim 1, wherein said protein comprises an intervening group of from 1 to 50 amino acids between said blocks of repetitive units.
- 6. A protein of at least 30 kDal comprising at least 50 number percent of amino acids of at least one naturally occurring repeating unit of a naturally occurring structural protein selected from the group consisting of collagen, elastin, silk, and keratin and of from 3 to 20 amino acids, each of the same said repeating unit having the same amino acids.
- 7. A protein according to claim 6, wherein said repetitive units are in blocks of at least 2 repetitive units.
- 8. A protein according to claim 6, wherein said protein comprises an intervening group of from 1 to 50 amino acids between said blocks of repetitive units.
- 9. The polypeptide according to claim 6, wherein said repeating unit is selected from the-group consisting of SGAGAG (SEQ ID NO:21) and GAGAGS (SEQ ID NO:41).
- 10. A protein according to claim 6, wherein said repeating unit is selected from the group consisting of GVGVP (SEQ ID NO:23), VPGVG (SEQ ID NO:24) APGVGV (SEQ ID NO:25).
- 11. A protein according to claim 6, wherein said repeating unit is Gap, wherein a and P are any amino acid, a and P being selected so that the encoded protein comprises from about 10 to 45 number % proline.
- 12. A protein according to claim 6, wherein said repeating unit is K-L-(1)-L-A-E-A (SEQ ID NO:105), wherein 1 is a basic or acidic amino acid, particularly K or E and the repeating units alternate as to whether 1 is a basic or acidic amino acid.
- 13. A protein of at least 30 kDal comprising at least 50 number percent of amino acids of at least one naturally occurring repeating unit of a naturally occurring structural protein and of from 3 to 20 amino acids, each of the same said repeating unit having the same amino acids, further comprising intervening groups of from 1 to 50 amino acids between regions of at least 2 repeating units.
