Claims
- 1. A liquid dispersion for use in enhancing the electroplating of a non-conductive surface said dispersion comprising:
- (a) carbon particles which have been surface modified by being contacted with a dye, said carbon particles having an average diameter of less than 3.0 microns in said dispersion;
- (b) a dispersant; and
- (c) an aqueous liquid dispersion medium;
- wherein the concentration of the carbon particles in the liquid dispersion is less than 5 percent by weight of said dispersion.
- 2. A liquid dispersion according to claim 1 wherein the dye is selected from the group consisting of methylene blue, methyl red, janus green B, xylene cyanole and mixtures thereof.
- 3. A liquid dispersion according to claim 2 wherein the carbon particles are selected from the group consisting of carbon black, graphite, intermediate carbon structures and mixtures thereof.
- 4. A liquid dispersion according to claim 1 wherein the carbon particles are selected from the group consisting of carbon black, graphite, intermediate carbon structures and mixtures thereof.
- 5. A liquid dispersion for use in enhancing the electroplating of a non-conductive surface said dispersion comprising:
- (a) carbon particles having an average diameter of less than 3.0 microns in said dispersion;
- (b) a dispersant; and
- (c) an aqueous liquid dispersing medium;
- wherein said carbon particles have a metal reduced or adsorbed onto the surface of said carbon particles and wherein the concentration of carbon particles in said dispersion is less than 5 percent by weight of said dispersion.
- 6. A liquid dispersion according to claim 5 wherein the metal is reduced or adsorbed onto the carbon surface from a bath selected from the group consisting of ionic palladium activators, colloidal palladium activators, colloidal palladium-tin activators, ionic gold activators, ionic copper activators, ionic rhodium activators and ionic ruthenium activators.
- 7. A liquid dispersion according to claim 5 wherein the carbon particles are selected from the group consisting of carbon black, graphite, intermediate carbon structures and mixtures thereof.
- 8. A liquid dispersion according to claim 5 wherein the carbon particles are selected from the group consisting of carbon black, graphite, intermediate carbon structures and mixtures thereof.
- 9. A liquid dispersion for use in enhancing the electroplating of a non-conductive surface said dispersion comprising:
- (a) carbon particles which have been surface modified by being contacted with an oxidant, said carbon particles having an average diameter of less than 3.0 microns in said dispersion;
- (b) a dispersant; and
- (c) an aqueous liquid dispersing medium;
- wherein the concentration of the carbon particles in the liquid dispersion is less than 5 percent by weight of said dispersion.
- 10. A liquid dispersion according to claim 9 wherein the oxidant is selected from the group consisting of nitric acid, peroxides, persulfates and permanganates.
