Claims
- 1. A method of selecting a first plant by marker assisted selection of a quantitative trait locus (“QTL”) associated with soybean cyst nematode resistance, the method comprising the steps of:1) determining the presence of a locus in the first plant, wherein the locus hybridizes with a first nucleic acid and is genetically linked to a marker selected from the group consisting of pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php 05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a; and, 2) selecting the first plant comprising the locus that hybridizes with the first nucleic acid, thereby selecting the QTL associated with soybean cyst nematode resistance.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of: php02302a, php02340a, php05180a, php05266a, php02298b, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php05219a, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, and php03488a.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the nucleic acid maps within ten centimorgans of the locus.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining the presence of a second nucleic acid from the first plant wherein the second nucleic acid hybridizes with, and is genetically linked to, a locus corresponding to a marker selected from the group consisting of pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining the presence of a second nucleic acid from the first plant which hybridizes with, and is genetically linked to, a locus corresponding to a marker selected from the group consisting of pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a, wherein the first and second nucleic acids flank the QTL.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first plant is a progeny plant to a plant breeding cross between:a non-resistant soybean plant which is not resistant to one or more soybean cyst nematode races (“SCN”) selected from the group consisting of SCN race 1, SCN race 2, SCN race 3, SCN race 5, and SCN race 14; and, a resistant soybean plant which is resistant to one or more soybean cyst nematode races (“SCN”) selected from the group consisting of SCN race 1, SCN race 2, SCN race 3, SCN race 5, and SCN race 14.
- 7. The method of claim 6, further comprising introduction of SCN resistance into progeny of the first plant, where the progeny of the first plant comprise the QTL for SCN resistance.
- 8. The method of claim 6, further comprising introgression of SCN resistance into progeny of the first plant, where the progeny of the first plant comprise the QTL for SCN resistance.
- 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the QTL is derived from a second plant selected from the group consisting of plant lines PI 437.654, Peking, PI90763, and a descendant thereof.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of: pBLT65a, php05354a, php02301 a, php02298b, and phpK79a.
- 11. A method of identifying a quantitative trait locus (“QTL”) associated with soybean cyst nematode resistance in a plant, the method comprising determining the presence of a first locus which hybridizes with, and is genetically linked to, the QTL, wherein the first locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of: pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php 05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a, whereby determining the presence of the locus linked to the QTL provides an indication that the QTL associated with soybean cyst nematode resistance is present in the plant.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising determining the presence of a second locus which hybridizes with and is genetically linked to the QTL, wherein the second locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of: pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php 05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a.
- 13. The method of claim 11, further comprising determining the presence of a second locus which hybridizes with and is genetically linked to the QTL, wherein the second locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of: pA85a, php02302a, php02340a, pk400a, pT155a, pBLT24a, pBLT65a, php05180a, pSAC3a, pA1116, php05266a, php02298b, pA664a, pA63a, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php 05219a, pK69a, pL50c, pK18a, pA567a, pA407a, pA404b, pA226a, pA715a, pK24a, pB157b, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, pBLT49a, pK79a, and php03488a, wherein the first and second loci flank the QTL.
- 14. The method of claim 11, wherein the locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of php02302a, php02340a, php05180a, php05266a, php02298b, php02366a, php02361a, php05354a, php05219a, php02275a, php05278a, php05240c, and php03488a.
- 15. The method of claim 11, wherein the locus corresponds to a marker selected from the group consisting of pBLT65a, php05354a, php02301a, php02298b, and phpK79a.
