Claims
- 1. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein which oxidizes a retinoid and comprises an amino acid sequence which Is at least 30% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 2. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 35% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 3. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 50% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 4. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 60% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 5. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 70% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 6. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 80% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 7. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 90% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 8. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 95% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 11. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the retinol is a retinol or a retinoic acid.
- 12. The antibody according to claim 11, wherein the retinoid is a retinoic acid.
- 13. The antibody according to claim 1, wherein the protein oxidizes the carbon at the 4-position of the _-ionone ring of the retinoid.
- 14. The antibody according to claim 13, wherein the retinoid is an all-trans retinoid.
- 15. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein, wherein the protein is encoded by a first nucleic acid molecule which hybridizes with a second nucleic acid molecule under high stringency hybridization conditions, wherein high stringency conditions include a wash step of about 0.2× SSC at 50° C., the complementary coding strand of which second nucleic acid molecule encodes a protein which is at least about 30% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32 and which protein oxidizes a retinoid.
- 16. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein which oxidizes a retinoid and which is encoded by a nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes under high stringency conditions, wherein high stringency conditions include a wash step of about 0.2× SSC at 50° C. to a polynucleotide having a nucleotide sequence selected from the group of sequences identified as: SEQ ID NO:3: SEQ ID NO:5; and SEQ ID NO:31.
- 17. The antibody according to claim 16, wherein the amino acid sequence of the protein is at least 30% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 18. The antibody according to claim 16, wherein the retinoid is a retinol or a retinoic acid.
- 19. The antibody according to claim 18, wherein the retinoid is a retinoic acid.
- 20. The antibody according to claim 16, wherein the protein oxidizes the carbon at the 4-position of the _-ionone ring of the retinoid.
- 21. The antibody according to claim 16, wherein the retinoid is an all-trans retinoid.
- 22. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein having the ability to hydroxylate retinoic acid at the 4 position of the _-ionone ring of retinoic acid and comprising an amino acid sequence which is at least 30% conserved in relation to the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence identified as SEQ ID NO: 32.
- 23. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein having the sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:4.
- 24. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein having the sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:2.
- 25. An antibody which specifically binds to a protein having the sequence identified as SEQ ID NO:32.
- 26. The antibody according to claim 1, 16, 22, 23, 24 or 25, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
- 27. The antibody according to claim 1, 16, 22, 23, 24 or 25, wherein the antibody does not bind only to a heme-binding motif of the protein corresponding to amino acid residues from about 431 to about 449 of SEQ ID NO: 2, or only to a heme-binding motif of the protein corresponding to amino acid residues from about 435 to about 453 of SEQ ID NO: 4, or only to a heme-binding motif of the protein corresponding to amino acid residues from about 435 to about 453 of SEQ ID NO: 32.
- 28. The antibody according to claim 27, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
- 29. An antibody which specifically binds to an epitope located within an unconserved region of a protein, the unconserved region consisting of amino acids 1 to 432 of SEQ ID NO:2.
- 30. The antibody according to claim 29, wherein the epitope comprises amino acids 70 to 74 of SEQ ID NO: 2.
- 31. An antibody which specifically binds to an epitope located within an unconserved region of a protein, the unconserved region consisting of amino acids 1 to 436 of SEQ ID NO:4.
- 32. The antibody according to claim 31, wherein the epitope comprises amino acids 70 to 74 of SEQ ID NO:4.
- 33. An antibody which specifically binds to an epitope located within an unconserved region of a protein, the unconserved region consisting of amino acids 1 to 436 of SEQ ID NO:32.
- 34. The antibody according to claim 33, wherein the epitope comprises amino acids 70 to 74 of SEQ ID NO:32.
- 35. A kit for determining the presence of a protein defined in claim 1, comprising an antibody of claim 1 linked to a reporter system, wherein the reporter system produces a detectable response when a predetermined amount of the protein and the antibody are bound together.
- 36. The kit according to claim 35, wherein the antibody Is a monoclonal antibody.
- 37. A kit for determining the presence of a protein defined in claim 16, comprising an antibody of claim 16 linked to a reporter system, wherein the reporter system produces a detectable response when a predetermined amount of the protein and the antibody are bound together.
- 38. The kit according to claim 37, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
