Claims
- 1. A method of measuring the concentration of glycoprotein complexes in a sample of human milk, said glycoprotein complexes comprising a plurality of glycoprotein subunits, wherein said glycoprotein complexes have (i) an apparent molecular weight of over 1200 kD and a sucrose velocity gradient sedimentation value of about 25S, and (ii) the ability to interfere with PHA-dependent activation of lymphocytes, and wherein said glycoprotein subunits are about 85-97 kD on reducing SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) contacting a sample of human milk with an antibody which binds said gp85-97 subunits to form a mixture; and
- b) determining the concentration of said gp85-97 subunits in said mixture.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said antibody to said glycoprotein subunits is obtained using the protein product of SK-BR-3 gp97 as an immunogen.
