Claims
- 1. A process comprising
providing a printed wiring core board, laminating to the printed wiring core board a sheet comprising a foil of a conductive metal and, on the foil, a dielectric layer comprising a curable composition (a) at least one precursor compound selected from arylcylobutene monomers, arylcyclobutene oligomers, and combinations thereof; and (b) a polymer or oligomer having a backbone comprising ethylenic unsaturation, wherein during the lamination step the dielectric layer is in contact with the printed wiring board, and processing the laminated article to form additional electrical connections.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the ethylenically unsaturated polymer is a polybutadiene.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the ethylenicaly unsaturated polymer is terminated with groups selected from acrylate and methacrylate.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the step of processing to form additional electrical connections includes one or more of the following steps: stripping the metal foil, etching the metal foil, drilling through the laminate, opening a via with a CO2 laser, copper electroless plating, and copper electroplating.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein the metal foil is copper.
- 6. A curable composition comprising
a) at least one precursor compound selected from arylcylobutene monomers, arylcyclobutene oligomers, and combinations thereof; and b) a polymer or oligomer having a backbone comprising ethylenic unsaturation and terminal acrylate or methacrylate groups.
- 7. The composition of claim 5 wherein the ethylenically unsaturated polymer or oligomer is a polybutadiene.
- 8. The composition of claim 5 further comprising a cross-linking aid and an antioxidant.
- 9. An article comprising a metal foil and on that metal foil a layer of the composition of claim 5.
- 10. The article of claim 8 wherein the metal foil is copper.
- 11. The cured reaction product of the composition of claim 5.
- 12. A photoimageable composition comprising (a) at least one precursor compound selected from arylcylobutene monomers, arylcyclobutene oligomers, and combinations thereof; (b) a polymer or oligomer having a backbone comprising ethylenic unsaturation; and (c) a photoactive compound selected from the group consisting of azides, bismaleimides, acrylates, acetylenes, isocyanates, aromatic ketones such as 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone, conjugated aromatic ketones, and benzophenone-containing polymers.
