- 21: An isolated nucleic acid comprising a sequence encoding a polypeptide consisting of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 80% identical to a reference sequence of amino acids, wherein said reference sequence of amino acids consists of residue 28 to residue x1 of SEQ ID NO:4, x1 is selected from the group of residues 68 to 80 of SEQ ID NO:4, and said polypeptide binds to TWEAK.
- 22: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 21, wherein said polypeptide consists of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 90% identical to said reference sequence of amino acids.
- 23: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 22, wherein said polypeptide consists of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 95% identical to said reference sequence of amino acids.
- 24: A vector comprising the isolated nucleic acid of claim 21.
- 25: The vector of claim 24 wherein said vector is an expression vector.
- 26: A recombinant cell comprising the isolated nucleic acid of claim 21.
- 27: The recombinant cell of claim 26, wherein said recombinant cell is selected from the group consisting of an animal cell, a plant cell, and a bacterial cell.
- 28: The recombinant cell of claim 27, wherein said recombinant cell is a bacterial cell selected from the group consisting of Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Salmonella typhimurium.
- 29: A method of producing a polypeptide comprising culturing said recombinant cell of claim 26 under conditions promoting expression of said polypeptide.
- 30: A cell comprising the expression vector of claim 25.
- 31: The cell of claim 30, wherein said cell is selected from the group consisting of an animal cell, a plant cell, and a bacterial cell.

- 33: A method of producing a polypeptide comprising culturing said cell of claim 30 under conditions promoting expression of said polypeptide.
- 34: An isolated nucleic acid comprising a sequence encoding a recombinant polypeptide comprising the polypeptide of claim 21 operably linked to a polypeptide of interest.
- 35: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 34, wherein the polypeptide of interest is an Fc polypeptide, a leucine zipper polypeptide, or a peptide linker.
- 36: A vector comprising the isolated nucleic acid of claim 34.

- 38: A recombinant cell comprising the isolated nucleic acid of claim 34.

- 46: An isolated nucleic acid comprising a sequence encoding a polypeptide comprising a sequence Z1-X-Z2, wherein Z1 and Z2 each individually is a polypeptide consisting of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 80% identical to a reference sequence of amino acids, wherein said reference sequence of amino acids consists of residue 28 to residue x1 of SEQ ID NO:4, x1 is selected from the group of residues 68 to 80 of SEQ ID NO:4, X is a peptide linker, and said polypeptide binds to TWEAK.
- 47: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 46, wherein said Z1 and Z2 each individually is a polypeptide consisting of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 90% identical to said reference sequence of amino acids.
- 48: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 47, wherein said Z1 and Z2 each individually is a polypeptide consisting of a sequence of amino acids that is at least 95% identical to said reference sequence of amino acids.
- 49: The isolated nucleic acid of claim 46, wherein Z1 and Z2 have the same amino acid sequence.
