Claims
- 1. A control module comprising:
a housing adapted to be mounted upon a vehicle having a primary axis; a circuit board disposed within said housing; and an acceleration sensor mounted upon said circuit board, said sensor including an acceleration measuring element, said sensor being mounted upon said circuit board with said measuring element lying in a plane which is perpendicular to said vehicle primary axis.
- 2. A control module according to claim 1 wherein said circuit board is a primary circuit board and said acceleration sensor is mounted upon a secondary circuit board, said secondary circuit board being mounted upon said primary circuit board.
- 3. A control module according to claim 2 wherein said secondary circuit board is mounted upon said primary circuit board at a predetermined angle.
- 4. A control module according to claim 3 wherein said secondary circuit board is perpendicular to said primary circuit board with said secondary circuit board rotated relative to said primary circuit board about a first axis which is perpendicular to said primary circuit board and said acceleration sensor is rotated relative to said secondary circuit board about a second axis which is perpendicular to said secondary circuit board.
- 5. A control module according to claim 4 wherein said secondary circuit board is rotated about said first axis by a firs predetermined angle and said sensor is rotated about said second axis by a second predetermined angle.
- 6. A control module according to claim 3 wherein said secondary circuit board is rotated relative to said primary circuit board about a first axis which is parallel to a surface of said primary circuit board and said acceleration sensor is rotated relative to said secondary circuit board about a second axis which is perpendicular to said secondary circuit board.
- 7. A control module according to claim 6 wherein said secondary circuit board is rotated about said first axis by a firs predetermined angle and said sensor is rotated about said second axis by a second predetermined angle.
- 8. A control module according to claim 4 wherein said primary vehicle axis is a longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
- 9. A control module according to claim 4 wherein said primary vehicle axis is a lateral axis of the vehicle.
- 10. A control module according to claim 4 wherein said primary vehicle axis is a vertical axis of the vehicle.
- 11. A control module according to claim 4 wherein the control module is included in an anti-lock brake system.
- 12. A control module according to claim 4 wherein the control module is included in a traction control system.
- 13. A process for producing a control module adapted to be mounted in a vehicle having a primary axis, the process comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a circuit board; (b) rotating an acceleration sensor having a sensing element about an axis which is perpendicular to the circuit board such that, when the control module is mounted in the vehicle, the sensing element will be perpendicular to the primary axis of the vehicle; (c) attaching the sensor to the circuit board; and (d) installing the circuit board in a housing.
- 14. A process according to claim 13 wherein the circuit board is a secondary circuit board and the axis is a first axis and further including, subsequent to step (c), rotating the secondary circuit board about a second axis relative to a primary circuit board and attaching the secondary circuit board to the primary circuit board such that, when the control module is mounted in the vehicle, the sensing element will be perpendicular to the primary vehicle axis.
- 15. A process according to claim 14 wherein said second axis is perpendicular to the primary circuit board.
- 16. A process according to claim 14 wherein said second axis is parallel to a surface of the primary circuit board.
- 17. A process according to claim 14 wherein the control module is included in an anti-lock brake system.
- 18. A process according to claim 14 wherein the control module is included in a traction control system.
- 19. A process according to claim 14 wherein the primary vehicle axis is a longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
- 20. A process according to claim 14 wherein the primary vehicle axis is a lateral axis of the vehicle.
- 21. A process according to claim 14 wherein the primary vehicle axis is a vertical axis of the vehicle.
