Claims
- 1. A method for preparing a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5a) or (5b), comprising the step of
- reacting a polymer comprising recurring units of the following general formula (1') and having a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000 with an alkenyl ether compound of the following general formula (8a) or (9a) and a compound of the following general formula (10a), ##STR71## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or methyl group, R.sup.2 is a normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, letter x is 0 or a positive integer and y is a positive integer satisfying x+y.ltoreq.5, p1 and p2 each are a positive number, q1 and q2 each are 0 or a positive number satisfying 0<p1/(p1+q1+q2+p2).ltoreq.0.8, 0.ltoreq.q1/(p1+q1+q2+p2).ltoreq.0.8, 0.ltoreq.q2/(p1+q1+q2+p2).ltoreq.0.8, and p1+q1+q2+p2=1, q1 and q2 are not equal to 0 at the same time, ##STR72## wherein R.sup.8a is a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms, R.sup.9 is a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or R.sup.8a and R.sup.9, taken together, may form a ring with the proviso that R.sup.8a is a normal or branched alkylene group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms and R.sup.9 is a normal or branched alkylene group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms when they form a ring, R.sup.13 is a normal or branched alkylene group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, A is a c-valent aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon, alicyclic saturated hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic group having 1 to 50 carbon atoms, which may have an intervening hetero atom and in which some of the hydrogen atoms attached to carbon atoms may be replaced by hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups, carbonyl groups or fluorine atoms, B is --CO--O--, --NHCO--O-- or --NHCONH--, letter c is an integer of 2 to 8, and d is 0 or an integer of 1 to 10, ##STR73## wherein R.sup.4a is a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms, R.sup.5 is a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.6 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms which may have a hetero atom, or R.sup.4a and R.sup.5, R.sup.4a and R.sup.6, and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, taken together, may form a ring with the proviso that R.sup.4a is a normal or branched alkylene group having 1 to 7 carbon atoms and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each are a normal or branched alkylene group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms when they form a ring,
- the hydrogen atoms of some phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1') being reacted with p1 mol of the compound of formula (8a) or (9a) and q1 mol of the compound of formula (10a) per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5a) or (5b): ##STR74## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are as defined above, R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are as defined above, or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, R.sup.4 and R.sup.6, and R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, taken together, may form a ring, with the proviso that R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each are a normal or branched alkylene having l to 8 carbon atoms when they form a ring, x and y are as defined above, m is 0 or a positive integer, n is a positive integer satisfying m+n=y, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above, and Q is a group represented by the following formula (4a) or (4b): ##STR75## wherein R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 each are a hydrogen atom or normal, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or R.sup.8 and R.sup.9, taken together, may form a ring, with the proviso that R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 each are a normal or branched alkylene having 1 to 8 carbon atoms when they form a ring, R.sup.13 is a normal or branched alkylene having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, A is a c-valent aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon, alicyclic saturated hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic group having 1 to 50 carbon atoms, which may have an intervening hetero atom and in which some of the hydrogen atoms attached to carbon atoms may be replaced by hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups, carbonyl groups or fluorine atoms, B is --CO--O--, --NHCO--O-- or --NHCONH--, letter c is an integer of 2 to 8, c' is an integer of 1 to 7, and d is 0 or an integer of 1 to 10.
- 2. A method for preparing a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5a) or (5b), comprising the step of
- reacting a polymer comprising recurring units of the following general formula (1') and having a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000 with a halogenated alkyl ether compound of the following general formula (8b) or (9b) and a compound of the following general formula (10b), ##STR76## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, x, y, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above, ##STR77## wherein R.sub.8, R.sup.9, R.sup.13, A, B, c, and d are as defined above, and Z is a halogen atom, ##STR78## wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, and Z are as defined above, the hydrogen atoms of some phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1') being reacted with p1 mol of the compound of formula (8b) or (9b) and q1 mol of the compound of formula (10b) per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5a) or (5b): ##STR79## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, Q, x, y, m, n, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein q2 mol of a group of the following general formula (12), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (6c) or (6d), ##STR80## wherein R.sup.7 is a hydrogen atom or tertiary alkyl group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and letter a is 0 or an integer of 1 to 6, ##STR81## wherein R.sup.3a is a group of formula (7), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group, and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, Q, x, y, m, n, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein q2 mol of a group of the following general formula (12) is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (6a) or (6b), ##STR82## wherein R.sup.7 and a are as defined above, ##STR83## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, Q, x, y, m, n, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above.
- 5. A method for preparing a polymer having recurring units the general formula (7a) or (7b), comprising the step of
- reacting a polymer comprising recurring units of the following general formula (1') and having a weight average s molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000 with an alkenyl ether compound of the following general formula (8a) or (9a) or a halogenated alkyl ether compound of the following general formula (8b) or (9b), ##STR84## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, x, y, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above, ##STR85## wherein R.sup.8a, R.sup.9, R.sup.13, A, B, c, and d are as defined above, ##STR86## wherein R.sup.8, R.sup.9, R.sup.13, A, B, Z, c, and d are as defined above,
- the hydrogen atoms of some phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1') being reacted with p1 mol of the compound of formula (8a), (9a), (8b) or (9b) per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (7a) or (7b): ##STR87## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, Q, x, y, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein q1 mol of a group of the following general formula (11) is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5a) or (5b): ##STR88## wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are as defined above.
- 7. The method of claim 4 wherein q2 mol of a group of the general formula (12), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (5c) or (5d): ##STR89## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3a, Q, x, y, m, n, p1, p2, q1 and q2 are as defined above.
- 8. The method of claim 5 wherein q2 mol of a group of the general formula (12), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (6c) or (6d).
- 9. The method of claim 2, wherein q.sup.2 mol of a group of the following general formula (12), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group is introduced into the polymer having recurring units of the general formula (1') per mol of the entire phenolic hydroxyl groups in the polymer of formula (1'), thereby forming a polymer having recurring units of the general formula (6c) or (6d), ##STR90## wherein R.sup.7 is a hydrogen atom or tertiary alkyl group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and letter a is 0 or an integer of 1 to 6, ##STR91## wherein R.sup.3a is a group of formula (7), tert-alkyl group, trialkylsilyl group or ketoalkyl group, and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, Q, x, y, m, n, p1, p2, q1, and q2 are as defined above.
