Claims
- 1. An electronic module, comprising:
- (a) a housing with a cavity formed from a layered member, said layered member having two form-fitting substantially concave portions with a first electrically conductive surface area and a second electrically conductive surface area, wherein said first electrically conductive surface area is electrically isolated from said second electrically conductive surface area by an insulating member disposed therebetween;
- (b) circuitry fully enclosed in said cavity, said circuitry electrically coupled to said first electrically conductive surface area and to said second electrically conductive surface area via a one-wire bus including a ground line and a signal line, wherein said ground line is electrically connected to said first electrically conductive surface area and said signal line is electrically connected to said second electrically conductive surface area;
- (c) said circuitry being capable of receiving, manipulating and transmitting electronic information; and
- (d) means for affixing said electronic module to a physical object.
- 2. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said circuitry is powered by an energy source positioned within said cavity.
- 3. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive surface area comprise a substantially token-shaped body.
- 4. The electronic module of claim 3, wherein said substantially token-shaped body is cylindrical in shape.
- 5. The electronic module of claim 3, wherein said substantially token-shaped body is comprised substantially of metal.
- 6. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein;
- (a) said circuitry includes (1) a voltage level detector coupled to said first and second electrically conductive surface areas for receiving signals applied as voltage level differences between said first and second electrically conductive surface areas and (2) a switch electrically coupling said first and second electrically conductive surface areas for sending signals by changing a resistance between said first and second electrically conductive surface areas.
- 7. The electronic module of claim 6, wherein said voltage level differences are approximately 5 volts and are created by comparing a first voltage level from a second voltage level, said first voltage level corresponds to a logical high and said second voltage level corresponds to a logical low.
- 8. The electronic module of claim 6, wherein a portion of said circuitry is integrated on a monolithic piece of silicon.
- 9. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said physical object is selected from the group consisting of maintenance records, retail products, machinery, cards, personnel identification badges.
- 10. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said circuitry is mounted on and electrically coupled to a printed circuit board disposed within said cavity, said printed circuit board is electrically coupled to said first electrically conductive surface area and to said second electrically conductive surface area.
- 11. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said means for affixing comprises a double-sided adhesive tape.
- 12. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive area are positioned in relation to one another so that a user can easily access said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive surface area when said electronic module is mounted to a physical item.
- 13. The electronic module of claim 1, wherein said circuitry comprises:
- (b1) a ground node electrically coupled to said first electrically conductive surface area;
- (b2) a signal node electrically coupled to said second electrically conductive surface area;
- (b3) input/output circuitry electrically coupled to said signal node and to said ground node; and
- (b4) control circuitry and memory circuitry coupled to said input/output circuitry, said control circuitry further electrically coupled to said memory circuitry.
- 14. The electronic module of claim 13, wherein said memory circuitry is random access memory that is organized into a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns.
- 15. The electronic module of claim 11, wherein said circuitry is capable of effectuating at least one operation, said operation being selected from the group consisting of an electronic transfer of funds, an electronic verification of currency, an electronic inventory control, an electronic maintenance record-keeping and an electronic retail tagging.
- 16. An electronic token, comprising:
- (a) a housing with a cavity formed from two substantially concave conductive surfaces electrically isolated from each other by an insulating member disposed therebetween;
- (b) circuitry fully enclosed in said cavity, said circuitry being electrically coupled to said at least two electrically conductive surface areas for receiving, manipulating and transmitting electronic information over a one-wire bus; and
- (c) attachment means for attaching said electronic token to a physical object.
- 17. The electronic token of claim 16, wherein said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive area comprise a substantially button-shaped body.
- 18. The electronic token of claim 17, wherein said substantially button-shaped body is comprised substantially of metal.
- 19. The electronic token of claim 16, wherein said physical object is selected from the group consisting of maintenance records, retail products, machinery, cards, personnel identification badges.
- 20. The electronic token of claim 16, wherein said attachment means comprises a double-sided adhesive tape.
- 21. The electronic token of claim 16, wherein said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive area are positioned in relation to one another so that a user can easily access said first electrically conductive surface area and said second electrically conductive surface area when said electronic token is mounted to a physical item.
- 22. The electronic module of claim 16, wherein said circuitry comprises:
- (b1) a ground node electrically coupled to said first electrically conductive surface area;
- (b2) a data node electrically coupled to said second electrically conductive surface area;
- (b3) input/output circuitry electrically coupled to said data node and to said ground node; and
- (b4) control circuitry and memory circuitry coupled to said input/output circuitry, said control circuitry further electrically coupled to said memory circuitry.
- 23. The electronic token of claim 22, wherein said memory circuitry is random access memory that is organized into a two-dimensional array.
- 24. The electronic token of claim 16, wherein said circuitry is capable of effectuating at least one operation, said operation being selected from the group consisting of an electronic transfer of funds, an electronic verification of currency, an electronic inventory control, an electronic maintenance record-keeping and an electronic retail tagging.
- 25. An electronic module, comprising:
- (a) a housing with an enclosure formed from a multi-layered portion, said multi-layered portion comprising at least two form-fitting and substantially concave electrically conductive surfaces and an insulating member disposed therebetween;
- (b) attachment means, connected to said housing, for attaching said electronic module to a physical item;
- (c) an electronic circuit fully enclosed in said enclosure; and
- (d) a one-wire input/output circuit disposed between said at least two electrically conductive surfaces and said electronic circuit.
- 26. The electronic module of claim 20, wherein said electronic circuit is used for effectuating at least one operation, said operation being selected from the group consisting of an electronic transfer of funds, an electronic verification of currency, an electronic inventory control, and electronic maintenance record-keeping and an electronic retail tagging.
- 27. The electronic module of claim 25, wherein said electronic module further comprises at least one of a memory, an energy source, a processing unit and an interface circuit.
