Claims
- 1. A method for retaining heat at a solder fountain rework site of a printed circuit board, the method comprising the steps of:
positioning a heat retention plate in thermal proximity to a major surface of the printed circuit board, forming a rework assembly; preheating the rework assembly to a first predetermined temperature; preheating a solder fountain rework nozzle within a solder fountain rework system to a second predetermined temperature; and reworking the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board via the solder fountain rework nozzle.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the method step of positioning the heat retention plate in thermal proximity to the major surface of the printed circuit board further comprises:
applying temperature resistant tape around the perimeter edges of the printed circuit board and the heat retention plate, thereby coupling the printed circuit board to the heat retention plate.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of preheating the rework assembly to a first predetermined temperature further comprises:
placing the rework assembly in a solder fountain rework oven; and heating the network assembly in the solder fountain rework oven for approximately 15 minutes at approximately 125 degrees C.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of preheating the rework assembly to a first predetermined temperature further comprises:
attaching an active heater to a surface of the heat retention plate; and heating the heat retention plate to a first predetermined temperature via the active heater.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of preheating a solder fountain rework nozzle within the solder fountain rework system to a second predetermined temperature further comprises:
attaching the solder fountain rework nozzle to the solder fountain rework system; heating a solder fountain within the solder fountain rework system to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit; and switching the solder fountain to continuous mode for approximately three minutes to preheat the solder fountain network nozzle to the second predetermined temperature.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of reworking the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board further comprises:
switching a solder fountain within the solder fountain rework system to a cycle mode, wherein each rework cycle within the cycle mode includes approximately 5.5 seconds of contact between the solder and the printed circuit board followed by approximately two to three seconds of separation time; removing a component from the printed circuit board after one or more rework cycles; removing remaining hardware and pins after one or more additional rework cycles; reinserting and reflowing the component for one or more additional rework cycles; and cooling and washing the printed circuit board.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of reworking the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board further comprises:
applying heat to the heat retention plate during the rework via an active heat source coupled to the heat retention plate, thereby reducing a temperature gradient between the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board and all other areas of the printed circuit board.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of reworking the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board further comprises:
applying heat to the heat retention plate during the rework via radiant heat from an external heat source, reducing a temperature gradient between the solder fountain rework site on the printed circuit board and all other areas on the printed circuit board.
