Claims
- 1. A printing plate precursor element comprising: (a) a substrate having either an affinity or aversion to printing ink; (b) a photosensitive layer deposited over said substrate having either an affinity or aversion to said printing ink substantially opposite said affinity or aversion of said substrate, said photosensitive layer including at least a photopolymerizable, photocrosslinkable, or photorearrangeable compound and whereby said photosensitive layer is capable of being imagewise photohardened, photosolubilized, or photodifferentiated upon imagewise exposure to actinic radiation; and (c) overcoat containing a polyphosphate salt deposited over said photosensitive layer, said overcoat being essentially photoinsensitive, said polyphosphate salt having been made by water-depletion of an orthophosphate.
- 2. The printing plate precursor element of claim 1, wherein said polyphosphate is a sodium polyphosphate.
- 3. The printing plate precursor element of claim 2, wherein said sodium polyphosphate is s odium tripolyphosphate.
- 4. The printing plate precursor element of claim 1, wherein said substrate is hydrophilic and oleophobic, and said photosensitive layer is oleophilic.
- 5. The printing plate precursor element of claim 4, wherein said substrate is an anodized, grained aluminum substrate.
- 6. The printing plate precursor element of claim 5, wherein said photosensitive layer is deposited onto said substrate at a coverage of 70 to 150 mg/ft.sup.2.
