Claims
- 1. An improved cooling system comprising:
at least one component generating heat and required to be cooled; at least one cold plate evaporator device in thermal contact with the at least one component; a liquid refrigerant pump; a vaporizable refrigerant circulated by the liquid refrigerant pump to the at least one cold plate evaporator device, whereby the refrigerant is at least partially evaporated by the heat generated by the at least one component, creating a vapor; a condenser for condensing the vapor, creating a condensed liquid; and at least one return line to return liquid refrigerant to the pump.
- 2. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a separator means for separating the unevaporated liquid refrigerant from the vapor.
- 3. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 2 wherein the at least one return line comprises an unevaporated liquid refrigerant return line and a liquid return line from the condenser.
- 4. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 further comprising at least one liquid manifold for receiving the refrigerant from the liquid refrigerant pump.
- 5. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 4 wherein the at least one liquid manifold distributes the refrigerant to a plurality of lines for feeding the refrigerant to the at least one cold plate evaporator device.
- 6. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a liquid receiver for receiving the condensed liquid and returning the condensed liquid to the liquid refrigerant pump.
- 7. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the condenser comprises an air cooled condenser.
- 8. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the condenser comprises a liquid cooled condenser.
- 9. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the condenser comprises an evaporative condenser.
- 10. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the liquid refrigerant pump comprises a hermetic liquid pump.
- 11. An improved cooling system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the refrigerant comprises R-134a refrigerant.
- 12. A method for cooling one or more electrical or electronic components generating heat and required to be cooled, the method comprising the steps of:
locating at least one cold plate evaporator device in thermal contact with the one or more electrical or electronic components; providing a liquid refrigerant pump; providing a refrigerant; using the liquid refrigerant pump to circulate refrigerant to the at least one cold plate evaporator device, whereby the refrigerant is at least partially evaporated by the heat generated by the one or more electrical or electronic components, creating a vapor; condensing the vapor to create a condensed liquid; and providing at least one return line to return liquid refrigerant to the pump.
- 13. A method as claimed in claim 12 further comprising the step of providing a separator means for separating the unevaporated liquid refrigerant from the vapor.
- 14. A method as claimed in claim 12 wherein the step of providing at least one return line comprises the steps of:
providing an unevaporated liquid return line; and providing a liquid return line from the condenser.
- 15. A method as claimed in claim 14 further comprising the steps of;
providing a liquid receiver for receiving the liquid refrigerant; and returning the liquid refrigerant to the liquid refrigerant pump.
- 16. A method as claimed in claim 15 wherein the liquid receiver receives unevaporated liquid from the unevaporated liquid return line and receives condensed liquid from the condenser liquid return line.
- 17. A method as claimed in claim 12 further comprising the step of providing at least one liquid manifold for receiving the refrigerant from the liquid refrigerant pump.
- 18. A method as claimed in claim 12 wherein the step of condensing the vapor further comprises the step of providing an air cooled condenser.
- 19. A method as claimed in claim 12 wherein the step of condensing the vapor further comprises the step of providing a liquid cooled condenser.
- 20. A method as claimed in claim 12 wherein the step of condensing the vapor further comprises the step of providing an evaporative condenser.
