The present application is related to pending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 09/287,858 filed Apr. 7, 1999, entitled “Alignment Of Master and Slave In A Minimally Invasive Surgical Apparatus” (now issued as U.S. Pat. No. 6,364,888), and to the corresponding International Application of the same title, published as WO 00/60421. The present application is also related to pending U.S. patent application Ser.
