Claims
- 1. A method of cleaning a solid surface comprising: bringing a cleaning slurry into contact with said solid surface to be cleaned by immersing said solid surface in a bath of said cleaning slurry, said cleaning slurry comprising an aqueous cleaning liquid and water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles which are soluble in said aqueous cleaning liquid, said aqueous cleaning liquid comprising a saturated solution of said water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles so as to substantially inhibit the dissolution of said water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles in said aqueous cleaning liquid, causing an eddy flow in the aqueous cleaning liquid so that said water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles scrub said solid surface and aid in the removal of contaminants therefrom, said water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles comprising alkali metal carbonates, bicarbonates or mixtures thereof, said aqueous cleaning liquid further including adjuvants which are soluble or readily dispersable in said aqueous cleaning liquid and which aid in the removal of said contaminants, said adjuvants including at least one surfactant.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said water soluble alkaline salt abrasive particles comprise sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate or mixtures thereof.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said solid surface comprises a metal and said adjuvant includes a corrosion inhibitor.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein said corrosion inhibitor comprises magnesium oxide.
- 5. The method of claim 3 wherein said metal comprises zinc and said corrosion inhibitor is an orthophosphate.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of causing the eddy flow of said cleaning liquid includes stirring said cleaning slurry by a stirring apparatus.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of causing the eddy flow of said cleaning liquid includes sparging a gas through said slurry.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of causing the eddy flow in the cleaning liquid comprises inducing ultrasonic vibration in said cleaning slurry.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein said solid surface comprises a component part having a variegated surface.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said variegated surface includes one or more slots or holes.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said adjuvants include a recrystallization agent.
- 12. A method of cleaning a solid surface comprising: bringing a cleaning slurry into contact with said solid surface to be cleaned, said cleaning slurry comprising a cleaning liquid and abrasive particles which are soluble in said cleaning liquid, said cleaning liquid comprising a saturated solution of said abrasive particles so as to substantially inhibit the dissolution of said abrasive particles in said cleaning liquid, causing an eddy flow in the cleaning liquid so that said abrasive particles scrub said solid surface and aid in the removal of contaminants therefrom, said cleaning liquid further includes adjuvants which are soluble or readily dispersable in said cleaning liquid and which aid in the removal of said contaminants, said adjuvants include a recrystallization agent.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein said solid surface is immersed in a bath of said cleaning slurry.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the step of causing the eddy flow of said cleaning liquid includes stirring said cleaning slurry by a stirring apparatus.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein the step of causing the eddy flow of said cleaning liquid includes sparging a gas through said slurry.
- 16. The method of claim 13 wherein said step of causing the eddy flow in the cleaning liquid comprises inducing ultrasonic vibration in said cleaning slurry.
- 17. The method of claim 12 wherein said cleaning liquid is water and said abrasive particles are water soluble.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein said abrasive particles comprise alkaline salts.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein said alkaline salts comprise alkali metal carbonates, bicarbonates or mixtures thereof.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein said abrasive particles comprise sodium bicarbonate.
- 21. The method of claim 17 wherein said cleaning liquid is saturated with alkaline salts.
- 22. The method of claim 12 wherein said adjuvants include at least one surfactant.
- 23. The method of claim 12 wherein said solid surface comprises a metal and said adjuvant includes a corrosion inhibitor.
- 24. The method of claim 23 wherein said corrosion inhibitor comprises magnesium oxide and said cleaning liquid is saturated with alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal bicarbonates or mixtures thereof.
- 25. The method of claim 23 wherein said metal comprises zinc and said corrosion inhibitor is an orthophosphate.
- 26. The method of claim 12 wherein said solid surface comprises a component part having a variegated surface.
- 27. The method of claim 26 wherein said variegated surface includes one or more slots or holes.
