Claims
- 1. A spin valve structure comprising:
a first ferromagnetic layer separated from a second ferromagnetic layer by a non-magnetic layer; and a first specular scattering layer separated from a second specular scattering layer by the first ferromagnetic layer, the non-magnetic layer, and the second ferromagnetic layer.
- 2. The structure of claim 1, wherein the first ferromagnetic layer comprises a free layer and the non-magnetic layer comprises a spacer layer.
- 3. The structure of claim 2, wherein the second ferromagnetic layer comprises a pinned layer.
- 4. The structure of claim 1, wherein the first specular scattering layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, HfO2, MgO, Al2O3, NiO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4.
- 5. The structure of claim 1, wherein the second specular scattering layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, HfO2, MgO, Al2O3, NiO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4.
- 6. The structure of claim 1, additionally comprising an antiferromagnetic layer separated from the second ferromagnetic layer by the second specular scattering layer.
- 7. The structure of claim 6, additionally comprising a second layer separated from the second specular scattering layer by the antiferromagnetic layer.
- 8. The structure of claim 6, additionally comprising a seed layer separated from the first ferromagnetic layer by the first specular scattering layer.
- 9. The structure of claim 6, wherein the second specular scattering layer is separated from the antiferromagnetic layer by a second pinned layer.
- 10. The structure of claim 6, wherein the second specular scattering layer is separated from the antiferromagnetic layer by an antiferromagnetic coupling layer;
the antiferromagnetic coupling layer is separated from the antiferromagnetic layer by a pinned layer; and the second ferromagnetic layer comprises a reference layer.
- 11. The structure of claim 10, wherein the second specular scattering layer is separated from the antiferromagnetic coupling layer by a second reference layer.
- 12. The structure of claim 10, wherein the antiferromagnetic coupling material comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, and Cr.
- 13. The structure of claim 1, additionally comprising:
a pinned layer separated from the second ferromagnetic layer by the second specular scattering layer; wherein the second ferromagnetic layer comprises a reference layer; and the second specular scattering layer comprises a mixture of a specular scattering material and an antiferromagnetic coupling material.
- 14. The structure of claim 13, wherein the specular scattering material comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, HfO2, MgO, Al2O3, NiO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4, and the antiferromagnetic coupling material comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, and Cr.
- 15. The structure of claim 1 wherein the first ferromagnetic layer comprises Co and Fe; (he second ferromagnetic layer comprises Co and Fe.
- 16. A method for formning an spin valve structure comprising:
depositing a first ferromagnetic layer separated from a deposited second ferromagnetic layer by a deposited non-magnetic layer; and depositing a first specular scattering layer separated from a deposited second specular scattering layer by the first ferromagnetic layer, the non-magnetic layer, and the second ferromagnetic layer.
- 17. The method of claim 16, wherein the first specular scattering layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, HfO2, MgO, Al2O3, NiO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4.
- 18. The method of claim 16, wherein the second specular scattering layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, HfO2, MgO, Al2O3, NiO, Fe2O3, and Fe3O4.
- 19. The method of claim 16, additionally comprising
depositing a pinned layer separated from the second ferromagnetic layer by the second specular scattering layer; wherein the second ferromagnetic layer comprises a deposited reference layer: and wherein the deposition of the second specular scattering layer comprises co-depositing a mixture of a specular scattering material and an antiferromagnetic coupling material.
- 20. A spin valve structure comprising:
a first ferromagnetic layer separated from a second ferromagnetic layer by a non-magnetic layer; and specular scattering means for improving the specular scattering of electrons in the structure.
