Claims
- 1. A method of enclosing an object with a molding material, comprising the steps of:
- (a) preparing a mold including a first mold section and a second mold section and adapted to define a mold cavity, said first mold section including a gasket groove extending along the mold cavity;
- (b) placing a non-resilient gasket in said gasket groove;
- (c) placing the object in the mold;
- (d) closing the first and second mold sections so as to sandwich the object;
- (e) pressing said gasket against one side of the object by application of a pressurized fluid, said pressurized fluid including a hydraulic oil mixed with a thermoplastic resin in powder form, whereby said gasket is permanently deformed to seal the mold cavity;
- (f) introducing a molding material into the mold cavity; and
- (g) curing the molding material.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said gasket is formed of a deformable metal.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said deformable metal is selected from the group consisting of lead, solder, gold, silver, aluminum, copper, and tin.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the object is a lead frame with electric parts mounted on at least one side thereof.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the object is a filter.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein said thermoplastic resin includes at least one macromolecular material.
- 7. A method of encapsulating electric parts mounted on at least one side of a lead frame, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) preparing a mold including a first mold section and a second mold section and adapted to define a first mold cavity on said at least one side of the lead frame, said first mold section including a gasket groove extending along the first mold cavity;
- (b) placing a gasket in said gasket groove;
- (c) placing the lead frame in the mold so that the electric parts are located within said first mold cavity;
- (d) closing the first and second mold sections so as to sandwich said lead frame;
- (e) pressing said gasket against said one side of the lead frame by application of a pressurized fluid, said pressurized fluid including a hydraulic oil mixed with a thermoplastic resin in powder form, whereby said gasket is plastically deformed to seal the first mold cavity against said one side of the lead frame, said gasket being made of a malleable metal;
- (f) introducing an encapsulating material into the first mold cavity; and
- (g) curing the encapsulating material.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein said malleable metal is selected from the group consisting of lead, solder, gold, silver, aluminum, cooper, and tin.
- 9. The method of claim 7, wherein said thermoplastic resin includes at least one macromolecular material.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said macromolecular material includes polyethylene.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein said macromolecular material includes polyamide.
- 12. The method of claim 7, wherein said mold defines a second mold cavity on an opposite side of the lead frame from the first mold cavity, said second mold section including a second gasket groove extending along said second mold cavity, further comprising the steps of placing a second gasket in said second gasket groove, pressing said second gasket against the opposite side of the lead frame by application of a pressurized fluid, whereby said second gasket is plastically deformed to seal said second mold cavity against the opposite side of the lead frame, said second gasket being made of a malleable metal, introducing an encapsulating material into said second mold cavity, and curing the encapsulating material.
