Claims
- 1. A composition of matter for use as an optical window which:(a) consists essentially of a compound taken from the class consisting of group III-V compounds; (b) has not more than about 1 part per million impurities; and (c) has less than about 1×1015 atoms/cc carbon; (d) said group III-V compound being doped with a dopant element taken from the class consisting of shallow donors; (e) said composition of matter for use as an optical window being transmissive to infrared frequencies in the range of from about 1 micron to about 14 microns and being relatively opaque to substantially all frequencies above about 14 microns and from about 1 micron to about x-ray frequencies.
- 2. The composition of matter as set forth in claim 1 wherein said class consisting of shallow donors consists of Se, Te and S.
- 3. The composition of matter of claim 1 wherein said compound taken from the class consisting of group III-V compounds is one of GaAs and GaP.
- 4. The composition of matter of claim 2 wherein said compound taken from the class consisting of group III-V compounds is one of GaAs and GaP.
- 5. The composition of matter of claim 1 wherein said compound is GaAs and the dopant element is Se.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein the concentration of said Se is from about 5×1015 to about 2×1016 atoms/cc.
